The only one I listened to all the way without distraction was Vicarious. Its a great song, but right from the first guitar lick, it sounds like Tool. We will just have to agree to disagree

Yes, we will. Tracks 1 and 2 are loud, then it slows down with tracks 3-4 and then gets loud again on Track 5. I'm liking this album.

I had to pop it in at work too. I've been in and out but what I have heard is pretty good. The only comment I will make is from the little I have heard, it sounds a bit "familiar". It sounds exactly like what you would expect of Tool, not that theres anything wrong with that, I would like them to take a few chances, though. I'm sure that song exists somewhere on this disc. At least I hope it does.

i felt that way about "Vicarious", which is kinda "by the numbers tool" yet still good,  but i think the rest of the album is a departure from Lateralus and a different sound.

Yes, it is a different sound. Also, does anybody hear something familar on the pot? The guitars sound like an old metallica song, am I right? I just hear some similarities.

I have to listen to the new tool album just a couple more times before I give out my review.

I like it alot. Tracks 1-5 are incredible. Then, it gets a little weird before Rosetta Stoned, track 8. Still haven't listened to the end that much but really 1-8 is overall an "A" in my book. Very ambitious and pretentious stuff.?This album will definitely get me through to the Gnr shows and probably even the release of Chinese (although I hate to say it, the album seems to still be no where in sight ).

Okay, so now for my tool review. People can disagree/agree all they want. 10,000 Days is a different kind of album than Laterlaus and Anima. It's louder than Laterlaus but it's not like Anima either.

It starts off well with Vicarious the lead single and then a song that takes a little longer to like: "Jambi." Then, it gets quiet all of the sudden with songs like Wings For Marie and 10,000 Days.

The 3rd and 4th tracks are actually one song split into two.  Wings For Marie is very quiet and can be somewhat boring if you know what I mean. 10,000 days has thunder sound effects and it's 10 minutes long but it has some pretty good parts in it.

Tool gets loud again on "The Pot." It's an excellent song. Then, Tool gets weird...

The Interlude "Lipan Conjuring" is like all Tool Interludes, the're not necessary. Then, Lost Keys (Blame Hoffman) isn't really a song at all. It's almost like a scene from a movie. It has a doctor and a nurse talking in a hopstial room while the music plays. Then, we head into "Rosetta Stoned" which is the strangest tool song I've ever listened to. It's got some good instruments on it but it's actually pretty much a waste.

But, tool begans to pick it up again the song: "Intension." A lot of people don't like this song but I do. And, then my favorite song: "Right In Two" is absolutely awesome. Then, the final track "Virginti Tres" sounds like something out of a horror movie. Can't really describe the last song, you just have to hear it for yourself. But, I do like the last song.

So, my suggestion to people is to listen to tracks 1-5 and then 9-11. Stay far away from tracks 6-8.

So, my rating is a 7 out of 10.

Maybe as time passes I'll think more of it but it isn't as amazing as Anima and Lateralus.

I do disagree though, I felt that the band has matured to a new level and the overall vibe is incredible on that record. Personally as the albums go by i like Tool more and more. Impossible for me to put a score out of 10 for them....I'd have to go to 1 decimal place

also you didn't rate the Salival audio disk or Opiate

Oh sorry, I haven't heard those. Opiate is the first cd and it has 6 tracks, I still have to get that. And Salival had a lot of their previous songs on it right?

Salival is a DVD with all t he videos up to Aenima on it then it came with a cd of unreleased stuff....it's OOP now...I scored and found it for $20 used

pretty good stuff though


Opiate is great too I highly recommend it if you are a big tool fan

I've heard the record thourgh about 10 times now.

Jambi and Rosetta Stoned are the two that I've liked most up to this point, but I tend to listen to the album through as such. This is the first tool album that I've really listened to this intensively, though I do have Aenima in my collection. Loving it. An excellent record. Don't really have anything to add.

Tool Tops Album Chart With '10,000 Days'

Rock acts dominate the top two slots on The Billboard 200 again this week, with Tool's "10,000 Days" taking the crown on more than double the sales of the latest from Pearl Jam.

The Tool Dissectional/Volcano set gave the band a career-best sales week, moving 564,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, to put it at No. 1. "10,000 Days" also takes over the lead from Godsmack's "IV" (Universal) on the Top Rock Albums chart.

Tool's last album, "Lateralus," also opened at No. 1 on the big chart in 2001 with sales of 555,000 units. It has sold more than 2.3 million to date.

"Pearl Jam," the band's first studio effort in four years and first for J Records, sold 279,000 to rank No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and the Rock Albums chart. The figure is the best sales week since 1998's "Yield" debuted at No. 2 with 358,000 units.

"Pearl Jam" is the Seattle-based quintet's 28th entry on The Billboard 200, including seven previous studio albums and 20 live sets.

 
Mobb Deep's G-Unit release "Blood Money" debuts at No. 3 with 106,000. Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige all contributed guest vocals to the duo's ninth set, which replaces Avant's "Director" at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

In its 17th week on The Billboard 200, the soundtrack to Disney's "High School Musical" climbs 7-4 with 94,000 copies despite an 11% decline in sales. Rascal Flatts' "Me and My Gang" (Lyric Street/Hollywood) follows, inching 6-5 with 89,000 (-20%). The group also tops the Top Country Albums chart for a fifth week.

The 21st "NOW! That's What I Call Music" (BMG/Zomba/EMI/UME) installment moves 8-6 with sales of 85,000 (-14%). Godsmack's "IV" falls 1-7 in its second week on the chart with 84,000 (-60%).

Moving 82,000 copies, Jewel makes a return to The Billboard 200 with "Goodbye Alice in Wonderland," which enters at No. 8, giving the singer-songwriter her fifth top 10 album. The final album under her Atlantic contract, "Goodbye" comes three years after the poppy "0304," which debuted at No. 2.

Bruce Springsteen's "We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions" (Columbia) slides 3-9 with 75,000 copies, a 50% dip in sales.

Phil Vassar's Arista Nashville collection "Greatest Hits Volume 1" rounds out the top tier with 65,000 copies. The No. 10 placing is his healthiest week-one entry, beating his previous best, 2002's "American Child," which bowed at No. 44.

Among other debuts is Thursday's "A City by the Light Divided" (Island), which opens at No. 20 with 46,000 copies, their second-best charting position behind 2003's "War All the Time" (No. 7). Meanwhile, Australian buzz band Wolfmother enters the tally with its self-titled Interscope/Modular release at No. 22 (37,000), while the self-titled Big Vin effort from Rebel Meets Rebel lands at No. 38 (26,000). The album features songs recorded several years ago by Vinnie Paul and his late brother, Dimebag Darrell, with David Allen Coe.

At 10.1 million units, overall CD sales were up 6% from the previous week but down 9% compared to the same week a year ago. Sales for 2006 are down 2% compared to 2005 at 192.1 million units.

yeah lateralus is awesome and i think i still like that better but that might just be cuz i like the different perspective they had on the lyrics for that record. i liked the positive message and "rebirth" type themes found in lateralus and reflection etc... this new record is pretty sick tho, i just wish we had maybe like one more song, i mean if u dont count intension and if u count wings as one song we just have like six songs. i mean the interludes are cool but i wish we had more "meat" to the album y'know.

No way. This album sounds to me like a mix of Old-School Metallica and Pink Floyd The Wall. I think some parts reach some levels they haven't touched on yet. Big fan -
