i've met lots of younger fans of this band, and some of them are also fans of bands such as Korn, Slipknot, Linkin Park, etc... I'm a bit shocked by their wide fan base, as well as pretty confused.

comments?  Huh

I am obviously only speaking for myself, but I think it starts with they arent the typical lets get laid, or woh is me bands that have dominated rock music of late. Their music is dark and moody but it makes you think, if you really listen to the lyrics. Plus they also have a pretty good sense of humor that slips through into some of the songs. The music is also excellent. Each album builds a mood that sucks you in when you listen. The music along with Maynards great voice and lyrics just build a great atmosphere that is lacking in other releases. I love A Perfect Circle but it just doesnt have quite the same effect for me.

I can agree with that, they are sort of a breath of fresh air from the usual " I'm so depressed " or the " fuck you for leaving me " type vibe. It makes me wonder why they weren't as big in the mid-90s as they are today.

I picked up 'Lateralus' a while ago - technically superb, there all brilliant musicians - but i had no idea what he was singing about and while it wasn't a bad album it had zero emotional impact on me - i just didn't care

I also own the first Perfect Circle album - again, sounds great but thats about it

im sorry, they may have a good drummer, but that doesnt save them as a band.

Tool took boring to a whole new level

You posted this a while ago but I gotta get ya' for this one. I'm sure Tool didn't make this album just to release something. It has emotion on it. Why don't you listen to Schism, Lateralus (the title track) and Parabol again and tell me what you think.

Basically, Tool is great band, I have 2 main bands that are my favorites and Tool is one of them, G'NR of course is my #1 favorite band.

I haven't listened to Opiate yet but Undertow is pretty cool and Aenima and Lateralus are fucking amazing. I can't wait til' the new Tool Album comes out, it's supposed to be pretty soon but I haven't heard any annoucements yet.

hey i'm interested in getting into Tool, wats a good starter album? By the way i also have A Perfect Circle's "Thirteenth Step" which is solid, but a bit boring in some parts, and it also has some obvious filler tracks (Crimes, Lullaby). I'm thinking about getting "Mer De Noms" also, i hope its better than Thirteenth Step.... i was a bit dissapointed.

i take it back, lol. "Thirteenth Step" is pretty cool, just takes some time to get into.? I'm still looking foward to getting "Mer De Noms"...

Opiate is a an alright EP,   sounds a lot like Undertow-

i just picked up Salival-  another EP,  its pretty trippy,  the last track cracks me up like crazy.

Tool/APC(toollite) and GNR are my 2 favorite bands as well-  but on completly different levels-     although Tool/apc have yet to put out a full album i listen too front to back,

Yeah, I know what you mean. Opeth and Pain of Salvation also spring to mind from that description.

Thoughts on the new album? I'd like to hear it! Tongue

except i still hear rumours about maynard going on tour with alice in chains- which i hope he does not do-   dont get me wrong i love AIC too-  but it;s just not right  i lost a lot of respect for the surviving Doors and Queen,

I could never really get into tool. There a good band and all, its just that prog-metal isn't really my cup oftea. And Maynard's vocals are vey annoying. Sounds like he is about to cry/take a shit.

51. Tool is NOT prog. If anyone insists they are, kill them.
