This is in response to a thread that started a few weeks ago that there was speculation that GNR would do SNL on Nov. 11. ?All I'm doing is confirming who the act is now.  So take it easy guys.

This statement is just completely untrue. SNL has always looked for a balance between talented, respected music acts and high-profile acts plugging a new album. Record companies have the top bands do the circuit of talk shows and SNL is a huge gig for a band to let everyone know they have a new record on the way.

If Chinese Democracy is indeed released, GNR fits the bill on both accounts.

Lorne Michaels stopped caring about who they brought on the show ages ago...SNL started out as a very different beast than it is today. Lorne may as well be dead because it doesn't resemble its early self at all. Furthermore the entire essence of the first ten years is gone. I'm not even an elitist who hated the Sandler period - I liked the early '90s with Norm MacDonald and David Spade. That shit was funny. Norm's Burt Reynolds was awesome. But I haven't seen a good SNL sketch in about ten years now, and most of their musical guests - MOST - are "artists" and "singers" like Ashlee Simpson.

I guess you missed some of the funniest skits ever during Will Ferrell's 7 years on the show. The current cast is not the best, but they're not terrible either.

Pearl Jam, Chili Peppers, The Killers, System of a Down are all recent guests .. good rock bands with a new album out do play the show.

People are always writing SNLs death warrant and claiming that no credible band/artist plays it anymore.

I still just can see GN'R playing SNL, but I wouldn't say it's because no one of worth plays it. I just think they're too big for it.
