2   1   Guns N' Roses   1.000
3   2   The Rolling Stones   .483

so this means searches for the rolling stones are 48.3% of the searches for GnR Huh

wow, that's alot then, for every search of the rolling stones there are 2 searches for GnR...

March of the Pigs

This is what I found with a net search. It's probably written somewhere on pollstar's website if you have the premium service. But anyway, the chart
referenced in this thread  seems top be based on searches not ticket sales..
--------------------------------------------------------------
Here is how Pollstar describes how the artists are listed on their Top
50 listings.  Note their use of the word "rank" and not "rate".

"Artists are ranked by the number of times their itinerary is
requested by fans visiting the Pollstar Web site on the Internet.
This site receives more than 23 million hits per month. The Power
Index is determined by ranking the artists as a percentage of the
chart leader."
--------------------------------------------------------------

Pollstar has another (premium only) chart called the concert pulse chart which is based on ticket sales. But I would think that one, like Billboard's, is based
on ticket sales/grosses after the show has taken place. Does anyone have access to it?

cheers tap.

I don't think I've been to the Pollstar Web site.
most net-regular GNR fans would know better sites for the updates on GN'R.
maybe that post about the pollstar chart could have some effect, but it was just yesterday.

public interest in this tour is ultrahigh. beer

Observation

If the ranking is decided upon how many hits a band get's on the Pollstar site, doesn't it seem like a strange coincedence that GN'R goes to number 1 the week after this board discovers that they were number 2 Grin

It definitely means a lot of interest in the tour, but it doesn't necessarily translate into ticket sales (it might or it might not.) People are certainly going to be curious about the return of GNR especially when the album comes out but that's not the same as sales....

the week after discovered? wasn't it just a few days ago by chief?  Huh

and then GNR at #2 already scored like more than 980 out of 1000 of  the who at #1.

It is usually the most recently announced tour that is #1 on Pollstar because everyone wants to find out what the tour dates are.  It doesn't reflect ticket sales and, like someone mentioned, could be the result of this message board checking the website to see where GN'R are "ranked".

Death Cab For Cutie was #1 when the first couple of GN'R dates were announced.... so I don't know where this comes from:

I think this proves once and for all that Guns N Roses is the greatest band of all time.

Unless it's sarcasm.  hihi

And Death Cab For Cutie beated the #2  by the margin as large as GN'R does? and in a few days? Roll Eyes

As if  there were any 80s band or the successer that is still as interesting as GNR now. ok

Pollstar is updated weekly, not daily...

Guns N' Roses is a great band, but my point is that being #1 on Pollstar doesn't "confirm" that this is true.  All this means is that the week GN'R's tour announced, more people clicked on their tour dates than any other bands tour dates.  This is about as reliable as using a poll on rollingstone.com to "prove" that GN'R is the greatest band of all time.

It is good that people are interested in the tour, but it's more important that it translates into ticket sales.
