Its simple: Either you get it or you don't. There are some type of music fans that are "surface", they still love the band, but just see values in a different way. For fuck's sake, don't put people down cause of it. Isn't that one of the things Axl sings about? Not to let people put you down, call you names, fuck with you? Let me guess...you never got into his lyrics much.
I DO have a life. And guess what ONE (let me repeat myself..ONE) of the reasons I do have life is? GnR. I found AFD, decided I wanted to do someting in the music biz, decided I wanted to be a music journalist and eventually got a degree in journalism in 1998 and working on second degree now and eventul masters. So see...you all bashing don't know everybodies stories...it opened a world to me...in ways some bands might not for others.
I'm not gonna defend anymore...its stupid. I've done this my whole life with GnR and refuse to do it anymore with supposed fans. Either you get it or you don't. Call me crazy, call me whatever. I highly don't give a rats fuck. Just sorta disappointing you guys turned it into a negative (some). I'm not a stalker, I'm not a freak, I just awk. that Axl and Co. helped to set me on a path I'm not sure I would have found otherwise. I think he'd dig that. I think he'd dig that his art/lyrics begat more art/education.
And btw..who are you to say what the lyrics of any of Gnr means to ME or anybody else? (Reference to the lycis of AFD) Who knows..maybe someone somewhere found solace in the fucked up topic of My Michelle cause they had a fucked home life? Not to mention maybe someone found strength from Axl being abused as a kid...and he still flourished? Fuck ignorance should HURT. Looking deeper into things, not just music, is what makes life interesting, not "crazy."
As for the realse of CD..I guess I haven't thought too much about it. Yes, it will be important, but mostly because it will be a whole new era of GnR...and maybe these little emo kids running around will learn some things and THAT music will effect them and bring positive aspects to THIER lives.

If the release of Chinese Democracy is a major thing in my life, what is scary and unhealthy about that? I mean, sure I am a scary and unhealthy person. But the fucking point here is for example if I think that I have absolutley nothing to live for. I just wanna hear Chinese Democracy one time before I kill myself. That waiting is healthy since I'm not killing myself, living on waiting for the record.
Um, no its not. Not in any way is that healthy. Its quite sad if that was the case for anyone. I doubt anyone is on this board b.c they are just casual fans of the band so its not a matter of being a "bigger fan" of any of that nonsense. But if a rock album is the reason you get out of bed in the morning - you have issues. Eventually CD is going to come out and after it does, what are you going to do with your life then?
And i agree, the 9-11/kennedy comparisons were just downright retarded.

I agree with you 100%...no one can tell ME how I should feel and how much this band means to me. In fact, I think THEY are the ones who need to get a life, since they're so concerned with everyone elses.

I find it most interesting, how some of you here are the kind of people who can reach so far into the soul of the music, capturing every single aspect of what the tune is offering you,and then some, so powerful to you, it takes you to a place not even you can describe, yet you still try to do so, and next you are sitting here trying to justify what you have just said, cause the other kind of people on this thread who can't seem to feel this kind of intensity, are dissing you. ?For those of you who have expressed your passions as u did, I relate to you, ?I feel those same passions about Axl Rose and all of his great talents, and to all involved past and present, to those of you who think some of us are way to passionate, you should really try and get on this level, let the music take you there, cause it's one hell of a ride !!!!!!!
Believe me I could never explain to you just how music makes me feel.? I couldn't imagine discovering another, deeper level, where songs have more of an impact simply because I doubt its possible for me to feel anything more powerful than what I've already experienced when listening to certian pieces of music.
I'm not questioning that, nor am I trying to deny it or say that theres anything wrong with that.
The part that worries me about some posts (and AylaRose28 this does NOT apply to you, you've explained over and over again that you meant more (or less depending how you look at it) than you said in your original post, and I accept that) is when people talk about the impact music has on them and how much it means to them as if its the
only
thing in their life they feel that way about.
I just find it sad to try and imagine living in a world where you can't get that same degree of joy and satisfaction from other things, art, literature, your family and friends, just going out and having fun and forgetting about what you'll have to do tommorow.? Even just waking up to find its a really nice day and you have some free time to do whatever you want can make you happy.? Or it makes me and many other people happy.
The idea that people would dismiss all that, ignore all those other oppertunities to reach the same level of passion and emotion music offers them in order to fixate on just one thing.? Or worse on the idea that one day, hopefully soon, they might get to hear music that makes them feel that good, thats what worries me about some (incidentally a minority) of people who posted in this topic.
I'm not saying theres anything wrong with loving music, that would be rediculous. ?I'm saying that theres something wrong with loving it to the exclusion of all else life has to offer you.
(in simpler terms as HannaHat said if waiting for an album to be released is your only reason to get out of bed in the morning you need to re-examine your perspective on life. ?Esspecially since you're soon not going to be waiting any more, and then what will you have to live for?)
Finally I'm also going to throw in that to me talking about a love of music, even a love of Guns N' Roses music specfically doesn't nessesarily have anythting to do with Axl Rose or the lyrics to those songs.
For me personally one of, possibly the, greatest pieces of music ever written is the bassline in the intro to Sweet Child O' Mine. ?Purely because of how it makes me feel. ?For me thats the climax of the song. ?I love the rest of it as well of course, not to mention virtually everything else GNR have ever recorded. ?But if I had to pick a favourite it would be that section.

Anyone who read into what I wrote about 9/11, and then took it the way that I am reading here is amazing to me. I never had the thought of putting GNR on the same level as it, nor would I have ever. I just wrote the simple statement of it being a time you will never forget. When I am looking back, I think I will always remember the day Chinese Democracy was released as clearly as the time we were attacked by terrorists. Of course its not the magnitude of an actual act of war.
It is great to read the thoughts many of you are sharing. I don't feel at all that Chinese Democracy is just an album. That kind of 2 dimensional thinking escapes me completely. I also never viewed Axl as being a god. But then again, I don't view Jesus as one either. I am agnostic like that. But I also cant deny the connection to his music I have. Its so personal to me that I just don't care if people don't see it, or they think he sucks. I don't care. If anything I feel sorry for them because its their loss.
Guns N' Roses has been this thing that is always with me. It has gone through many trials and tribulations as I have. I dont think its coincidental at all that my life now is at an all time high, and the release of Chinese Democracy is imminent. I think there is something going on here that is bigger then any of us.

I agree with Buddha_Master...
GN'R means more than just music to me.. it means awesome community.. and people like you guys are probably the reason I've stuck with this band so long.
Anyways... if you don't agree... go ahead and post about it. But don't be a fucking prick...
All I know is.. it'll be a strange day on the forum after Chinese Democracy comes out...

Man, some of you people need help.? Some of you are acting like Chinese Democracy will bring the second coming of Christ or something.? It's a fucking album!? Hopefully a good album!? But definitely not an event which will stay with us as much as 9/11!? I actually find that insulting the thousands who died in that attack.
Chinese Democracy will
not
be biblical... Axl Rose is not the reincarnation of Christ - and thank God for that.? The return of Christ is what triggers armageddon.
Well maybe some of us don't need help because at least Axl Rose is real, unlike God.
I've been a GN'R fan and coming to HTGTH since 2001 and even in that short time have seen and experienced the highs and lows. Failed tours, never ending rumours and false hopes, some amazing shows and great songs, rotating band members, the lot. All this without an album even coming out
What a ride. To think it will kind of come to an end is almost as sad as it will be a huge fucking relief. I want Chinese Democracy.

i loved reading some of the posts in this thread and i find it fascinating that people start defending guns n' roses on a gnr board just because others don't feel as passionate about the music.
hannahat i don't think anyone is living just for chinese democracy and that's the only reason they get out of bed. because if that was the case.they'd be dead by now with all the ups and downs of the journey to the release of this album
and why can't some of you understand that to some the music of guns n' roses means alot more than just your average album in a music store. why can't gnr's music change someone's life? you've never had a difficult choice to make in your life or a hard time and one little insignificant thing made all the difference? it could mean a lot for you but for the people around could mean nothing, would you like me to make fun of one of your life's most important things? so why can't one of those important things be the music of gnr for someone? why can't you understand that for some people the music is higher on their priorities list? and maybe they find joy in the music and not in their family because maybe some don't have a (happy) family. not everybody lives happily with mom and dad or wife/husband.
so i'm with budda_master and aylarose on this one. it's been great to have gnr music with me during my life and i hope to keep it wth me as long as i'll live. i love everything about it. the albums, the shows, my gnr t-shirts are my favourite clothes, the bootlegs. it's all great. my life doesn't revolve around guns n' roses but guns n' roses is a significant part of my life. i remember hearing nov rain when i was little (just because it was with that lady that goes to a wedding and then dies, couldn't figure out what that was about
), i remember seeing the first songs from a live gnr concert on a vhs tape - tokyo '92 that had only 3 songs on it - sweet child, rocket queen and so fine, then i remember raising money just to buy all the albums, i remember going around on the internet and looking at all the gnr sites that were around: here today, lostrose (i wonder what happened), mygnr, 2000intentions and more (can't remember them all) and they had no new info about what was going on in the gnr camp, i remember my friends seeing rockinrio3 and thinking buckethead was making fun of slash and his top hat with the kfc bucket
, then the album rumours started to flow and been waiting and following this band for yeasr and years now. it's been great, i finally got to see them live this year and the album is closer than ever, but the journey was great with all the ups and downs and when i'll look back at all this i'm sure it'll bring a smile to my face.
yes, it's just music, but for some the music is more important than a lot of things, and for others it's just music. but it's what brought all of us together here

Guns N' Roses has been a part of my life for probably 15 years and yes, even their music has helped me get through some tough times and it's been there during great times as well. As far as music goes, Chinese Democracy is the number one thing I am most looking forward too and I've been waiting just as long as any of you for this album. There have been many times in my life that I have argued about GN'R or stuck up for Axl when people were putting him down, but never to the point of actually kicking someones ass (wanting to though, YES). If people don't like GN'R or Axl, then they don't, their loss. I'm a musician, as many of you are, and although GN'R are my favorite band of all time, they are not my biggest influence musically. For some reason, even though I enjoy their music the most, I have never tried to emulate their sound, at least not conscientiously anyway. Even 'til this moment, I still don't really know why that is. When I was younger and writing music, when I compared myself to GN'R, I always felt discouraged because of the magnitude of this band, the larger than life aspect of them... so maybe that has something to do with it. Anyway, Axl Rose is my favorite lead singer ever and Slash my favorite guitar player and it's always been that way since I can remember. Just because this is a new band, with new members, I will never forget how or why the band Guns N' Roses got where it is today. I will never lose my love or respect for Slash and his playing, nor will I for any of the "former" band members, outside of Steven Adler ( I just can't stand Steven and I have my reasons, but won't get into that now). This may be the wrong thing to say or may even be considered sacrilege to many of you, but this current formation of this band, the 2006 band, MIGHT end up becoming my favorite form of Guns N' Roses ever. I love the chemistry they have, the songs they have produced so far, how down to earth most of the members are, the way Axl has changed for the better, how the band gets along with one another, the way they sound, the unlimited possibilities ahead of them and even how Izzy has played with these guys so many times...those are all great things going for THIS BAND. I am a person who likes change and doesn't like when things get repetitive, so maybe Axl taking the band name and going in the direction he wanted too, was the best thing for this band. I didn't believe that for years and for so long I wished Axl and Slash would reunite, but for the last few years and especially now with Ron in the band, seeing these guys together on stage and off, and Axl being back in top form, I couldn't be more happy. When a band is a small part of you for so many fucking years, it does begin to get more personal and a lot more special, that's a given. GN'R won't ever make or break my life, make my personal life better or worse OR even change the world, but it is great to have Axl and this band around again. I don't know Axl personally, but it does make me feel good that he seems to be happy now. I'm glad he's out there doing this because HE ACTUALLY WANTS TO DO IT, not because he's being forced. Such a major part of my life is music and it always has been, whether it be listening to it, making it or collecting it, it's what I love most. Some guys love sports more than anything, I love music more than anything. So it would be nice for this band to stick around for many more years to come and make that part of my life, which is being a fan of music, just a little bit more interesting. Peace out all...

BRAVO! Agreed and well said.
Plus, its interesting to hear how the actual music has affected you. I just happen to be a "word person" so I concentrate on the lyrics more....thats super cool about the bass line. Also, I think someone mentioned it wasn't just Axl to them...agreed on that point to...without the rest of the original members...things would sound and "feel" differently....

and why can't some of you understand that to some the music of guns n' roses means alot more than just your average album in a music store. why can't gnr's music change someone's life? you've never had a difficult choice to make in your life or a hard time and one little insignificant thing made all the difference? it could mean a lot for you but for the people around could mean nothing, would you like me to make fun of one of your life's most important things? so why can't one of those important things be the music of gnr for someone? why can't you understand that for some people the music is higher on their priorities list? and maybe they find joy in the music and not in their family because maybe some don't have a (happy) family. not everybody lives happily with mom and dad or wife/husband.
so i'm with budda_master and aylarose on this one. it's been great to have gnr music with me during my life and i hope to keep it wth me as long as i'll live. i love everything about it. the albums, the shows, my gnr t-shirts are my favourite clothes, the bootlegs. it's all great. my life doesn't revolve around guns n' roses but guns n' roses is a significant part of my life. i remember hearing nov rain when i was little (just because it was with that lady that goes to a wedding and then dies, couldn't figure out what that was about
), i remember seeing the first songs from a live gnr concert on a vhs tape - tokyo '92 that had only 3 songs on it - sweet child, rocket queen and so fine, then i remember raising money just to buy all the albums, i remember going around on the internet and looking at all the gnr sites that were around: here today, lostrose (i wonder what happened), mygnr, 2000intentions and more (can't remember them all) and they had no new info about what was going on in the gnr camp, i remember my friends seeing rockinrio3 and thinking buckethead was making fun of slash and his top hat with the kfc bucket
, then the album rumours started to flow and been waiting and following this band for yeasr and years now. it's been great, i finally got to see them live this year and the album is closer than ever, but the journey was great with all the ups and downs and when i'll look back at all this i'm sure it'll bring a smile to my face.
yes, it's just music, but for some the music is more important than a lot of things, and for others it's just music. but it's what brought all of us together here
Great points...just as I was feeling like I was being misunderstood you guys are def. helping me to not feel so alone! I've always thought that EVERYBODY has a band that has affected them in some way...mine (ours) just happens to be GnR. I know people who hang in the chatroom that I go to feel this way about Maiden, Queensryche, Dream Theater, etc. I don't get it..but I'm just excited to see people have a passion over something. Could be bands, music, teaching, reading, anything. I think alot of people, especially this younger generation (ha ha I sound like I'm 80...lol) are sometimes lacking some true passion. I mean if Axl didn't have a huge passion for Queen or Elton John we wouldn't be having this convo at all. Its all a big circle.
And whomever posted for us to "hug a tree"...I'm game! Hippie metalheads rule! LMAO.

Nothing wrong with being passionate about Guns N Roses. The music is so good it touches a lot of people pretty deep.

Axl IS the only man that didn't hurt me or left me...because music is a CONSTANT. Once again, that flew past ya there. I didn't mean PERSONALLY. Matter of fact, he's a man like all the rest...I have a feeling if I dated or knew him...would be a different story! LOL!
Exactly! I feel the same way as you, Ayla. There's nothing wrong at all with feeling that way with GNR's music Their songs have helped me with closure in a few different situations in my life (I usually end up packing an experience into a song, which is very therapeutic) And yes, I don't think my life would've been the same if I hadn't discovered GNR. I'm one of the late fans, only really getting into them in 2004/2005, but any way of becoming a fan is good in my book. I'm also a person that falls in love with all aspects of music (I wouldn't be obsessed with video game soundtracks if that wasn't the case), so the lyrics and melodies really did it for me. I'll edit this once I have more time.

Wow...thats very cool you're a new fan and feel that way. How old are you? I always find it interesting (and rad) when younger (once again sound old, but I'm 31..lol) people are finding GnR...makes me have faith!

I don;t really care what fans outside the GNR realm think about us & our affection for the band.
Mine, goes beyond their music. Their music inspires my life everyday, inspires my actions & thoughts & movements. GNR is more than a rock band, they are real people with real problems & hopes & express them in the most passionate ways through great music.
I was not a fan of the new GNR until I could hear music & see a guy as inspiring as he was in his prime, which I can now say is Axl Rose 2006. Seeing him doing well is inspiring me to do better in my life. I just want to hear great music, see a few shows & watch the album go a few platinum.
More importantly, I want others to see & experience GNR & Axl & be inspired to live better lives, the way I have & to see that their music iis among the greatest of the Rock genre.

I'm 17. And yeah, it shows the longevity of a band if they can get a large younger fanbase. We weren't around when they were rising in fame, but we can still appreciate what they did. And besides, it's great to be into the music so much that it affects you emotionally. I've always loved that feeling.
