Its annoying to have your view blocked. Thats it. It has nothing to do with the actual sign. Your blocking peoples view. I want too see the band, not your sign.

Do you need to see Axl breathing heavily between songs? It hardly went up, and when it did, it was only when Uncle Axl could have seen it. I know not to hold it up the entire show. Guess what? I am bringing huge fucking banners to NYC and Toronto!

At least ours were not generic. Gimmie some TWAT is great, IMO.

What's bono doing in your avatar? on topic: fine if you don't keep them up all the fucking time like some do.

rofl He's crawling on stage durirng the song An Cat Dubh. It's kind of a freaky performance. He plays the role of a cat. And when I saw them in Vancouver he even took a girls lipstick from the crowd and smeared it all over his lips durring the song ? Huh O.k. Than Huh?. Durring it my buddy said to me he now knows why Bono wears sunglasses all the time. It's because he's all coked up and doesn't want anyone to know. hihi

Look I know this is not about GNR, but when I went to VR in 04, my two daughter and I made about a 6 ft long banner welcoming back Slash, Duff and Matt. ?My oldest is really artistic and was able to draw Slash's tatoo of himself with the rose in his teeth, we drew a set of drumsticks for Matt, and and a base guitar for Duff, and below that it said "Give me a little of that bass thing", at the very top it said "Welcome Back", they actually came over to the corner of the stage and aknowledged the banner, when concert was over I folded it up tight and threw it onstage, while the stagehands were cleaning up one of them picked it up, tucked it under his arm and carried it off stage, i am imaging that they took it to the band. ?It did kind of piss off some of the people, but others were glad to help us hold it, but the drunks behind us kept trying to rip at it so they could see what it said, but I just turned around and chewed their ass out and they stopped. ?Anyway just thought I would share this banner moment with ya!!!

There is only one way acceptable for banners at indoor concerts (I'm including non covered arenas in that too) and thats if you KNOW you are front row on a balcony. That way you can drape it over the edge without obscuring everyone elses view.

Festivals are another beast entirely.

I hate banners at gigs.  It's hard enough to see when you're standing at a gig anyway, without having to deal with people's ideas of amusing phrases painted onto 6ft long banners and thrust into your view every five minutes.   I know people are justifying it by saying 'well, I only do it between the songs' or whatever, but I don't think anyone should block anyone's view at a gig if they can help it, no matter how long it's for or how they justify it to themselves.

If there's any way you can have a banner without blocking anyone's view, go for it - over a balcony or railings or whatever.  Other than that, banners suck ass (in my opinion!).

a banner could cause alot of problems for people directly behind you, especially if your standing in front of the stage. sure the band will like it though!

I mean I understand that you want to draw attention to yourself and everything because your an asshole and assholes do things ilke that. But i just fear your safety. Your going to get your ass kicked, if your blocking peoples view. I just remember last time, people were actually yelling at you, people wanted to riped your head off, you had it up for long periods of times during songs.

someone should bring a banner where it said "play silkworms" or "play rhiad" ok hihi

I got to see them play Rhiad in Detroit in 2002. How many times have they played it live?

I think that was the only time they played that during the 2002 tour, but I could be wrong (I'm almost positive tho!)  ...As for total times, I couldn't tell you, look through the setlist area on the main page and you can find out easly!

I think banners or posters at concerts are fine as long as you don't block someone's view of the show.

When I went and saw Poison a few summers ago I kept (I went to multiple shows) on seeing a girl down in front holding something up. Later on, I ran across a post of hers on a messageboard and she simply brought a dry erase board...wasn't too big, didn't block peoples view and she could write new messages throughout the show....guess she was sorta known for starting the trend...coming up with the idea...and the guys in the band always dug her quick messages to em'...always thought it was a good idea....

I would  love to have a sign that simply says "Thank You" or "17 years and I still haven't met Axl...how about tonight?"  peace

That was me, and it said "GIMMIE SOME TWAT" so get it right ok As far as people wanting to kick my ass, I only held it up between songs, when I thought Axl would get a look at it, not the entire show. The night before in the balcony, I had one that said " DEAD HORSE/HERE TODAY GONE TO HELL.COM" and Axl saw it, or so I was told.

The people who wanted it down were the same rumps who left during the new songs and didn't know the words to IRS, Better, etc.
rofl I was there when you made that sign. You made it at Mustang Harry's right?  the night of the 15th. Funny sign. hihi

Right on, it took like four people to make it, we had a blast holding it on the streets of NYC in line before the show. We could have had a u2 convo had I known you were all about them. I was tired of discussing the age old, CD release date question by the time of the show.

That was one of the funniest moments of my life!

The line for Hammerstein on the 15th was absolutely classic!  hihi

Oh, come on. Noone holds a sign throughout the entire show.

It's usually just a simple message to show your love to the band. People don't do it to get attention...

I made a bunch of signs, but the guards at the Warfield confiscated them until the end of the show.  It ended up being okay though, since I was able to hang the GNR flag I bought from the balcony.  I'm bringing that to future shows now.   Grin
