I know that brain played oh my god live, and I heard 10 full concerts aprox. of the new guns.

I don't catch the style of brain, don't convince me, I think Sorum was best, and possibly Freese too...

"Oh My God" [press release]

So here's the story behind this music

The chorus: OH MY GOD etc. deals with the societal repression of deep and often agonizing emotions - some of which may be willingly accepted for one reason or another - the appropriate expression of which (one that promotes a healing, release and a positive resolve) is often discouraged and many times denied. Emotionally the song contemplates several abstract perspectives drawing from personal expression as well as from the film (End Of Days) and its metaphors. The appropriate expression and vehicle for such emotions and concepts is not something taken for granted.

Musically the song was primarily written by Paul Huge over two years ago, with Dizzy Reed writing the musical hook of the chorus. Former member Duff McKagan as well as former employee Matt Sorum failed to see its potential and showed no interest in exploring, let alone recording the piece. When the demos were played for the new band, Josh, Tommy and Robin were as they say 'all over it.'

Once the opportunity was presented, the song was given priority in our recording process. As the verse, performance and lyrics were decided on, for us (that especially includes Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine) the choice became obvious. We were more than pleased Mr. Roswell (the film's music supervisor) agreed! Our thanks to Arnold and all for the consideration - it is an association in which we have always felt honored.

Paul Huge, Gary Sunshine and Dave Navarro appear on the song as well as Robin Finck. Robin's part was written by Paul and extensively manipulated by our producer, Sean Beaven. Robin was not involved in the writing of the final recording though did participate in the arrangement. All lyrics were written by myself. Additional programming (jack boots, screeching tires, etc.) was by Stuart White.

The fight of good vs. evil, positive vs. negative, man against a seemingly undefeatable, undeterrable, unrevealed destiny, along with the personal and universal struggle to attain, maintain and responsibly manage freewill can be and often is frustrating to say the least. In America our country's constitutional right to freedom of expression gives us a better chance to fight for that expression than many in other countries enjoy. It can be a big gig, like kickin' the crap outta the devil!

It could mean a lot of things, one of them being.. let's say a person who is neglected and verbally abused as a Child and holds in negative emotions against his mother or father because he/she has been taught by society not to curse or fight back against your mother/father. ?As the child grows and goes to school, the child often lashes out against authority, such as causing trouble to upset teachers, principals, authority figures. To some people, they might think that the child is doing it for attention, that would be the most common excuse for such behavior, but if one digged deeper you could see that the real reason for the behavior might be the child is taking out it's anger and discontent on other authority figures because the child can't do it at home against his mother/father, a person he is supposed to love and respect. So the outlashing against authority is really just a mechanism to relieve some built up tension inside that was "buried deeper where nobody can find it"....

etc.... you could relate parts of the song to racism, a child or adult who is realizing to love all others instead of blindly hating them..

you could relate it to a person realizing that he or she's religion may not be the right one or true.....socially influenced thoughts and behaviors are a big part of a lot of society, not many people think for themselves... "oh my god" can be the point where someone is growing into an adult and realizing most of what their parents or society has taught them is probably useless or untrue, or not right....

In my opinion, you must first truly understand the lyrics, before you can grasp the overall power of the song, and the twists and turns it takes during the music.

Sometimes you feel like shit, but other people don't want to listen to you. ?Sometimes you might even do bad things when you feel like shit, but other people don't like it when you do those things.
Axl was inspired by his own life experience, as well as the film "End of Days", to write a song about this.
Writing a song is a good way to channel and release negative emotions.

While working with Guns N' Roses, Josh Freese met their guitar tech, ProTools engineer Billy Howerdel.? One of Billy's requirements for working with GN'R were his own space where he could write down his own ideas.? Josh heard some of them, and decided to help him.? Later, Billy decided to form a band where he could perform those songs live... the band consisted of bass player/violinist Paz Lenchantin, and members from other bands he'd worked as a guitar tech for - Danny Lohner from Nine Inch Nails and Maynard James Keenan from Tool.  Later Danny Lohner returned to Nine Inch Nails for the Fragility tour, and was replaced by Troy van Leuwen.? Josh was still needed for recording sessions with GN'R, as well as drumming live for some other acts including Fishbone, so Billy got Tim Alexander from Primus to help out.? Josh and Tim rotated as drummer from this band, until one day they were signed to Virgin Records.? Billy now had to record an album, so he left the GN'R camp, and took Josh Freese with him.
The band is called A Perfect Circle.
