'Better' should be the first single. Then follow-up with 'The Blues'. *faints*

I think all if this will be promoted after the fact.  I think it will all drop quickly from here on out.  Unconventional yes, but hey it's Guns N' Roses.  I really hope (and almost believe) that the first single will be out before night one of the tour.  Maxi single would be great.

If they do go the maxi-single route, it should be the song itself - "Better," in my opinion, followed by "Beautiful" and other, non-CD tracks that fans will see when they go to a show.  That way, the single gets released *and* people will be more familiar with the setlist they'll see at the concerts...

I think they should stay away from itunes...I hate downloading and I think eventually that is going to kill the music industry...I still buy every cd I have..he should just put out the album and be very careful it doenst get pirated right away, which im sure it will because there are assholes all over the place that will do it...you see I dont have huge expectations as far as album sales go, because of all the illegal downloading ruining the business....it will sell well by todays standards, and I hope it goes number 1 but it will never reach the level of the illusions or appetite in album sales... which is unfortunate......that goes for all you downloading motherfuckers out there...congrats....now did I download the leaked songs?...of course I did, but I am also buying several copies of chinese democracy when it comes out just to have....so I am not ripping anybody off

First off, staying away from iTunes is stupid. Whether or not you like downloading your songs, a lot of people do. Why would GNR want to alienate part of its fan base?

Second, the album will be pirated, and it will have ZERO effect on sales so long as the album is solid. The record companies cry about downloading but studies have shown those who download actually buy more music than anyone else - they just download TONS (with the exception of really young kids who don't have money).

The reason CD will never reach the sales levels of old is:

a) Too much time has passed
b) Some people will never accept the absense of Slash
c) Nowadays there is more competition for your money - especially with DVDs.

DVDs took off in a way VHS never did, and that just *happened* to coincide with the downward spiral of music sales. Yet the music industry blames it all on downloading (because blaming their fellow content producers in the movie world would be virtual treason). So-called "illegal" downloading is probably fourth or fifth on the list of causes for declining sales, after DVDs, people fed up with record companies, the lack of quality artists, people having already bought enough CDs/having bought all their old tapes on CD now, etc. Not only that, downloading is today's tape-trading scene (something which Metallica, with their short memories clouded by money, forgot).

iTunes with its DRM crap just suck. I don't mind them selling the single there, but if it's exclusively I'm going to be very pissed.

Also, I'm pretty sure the single will be streamed on their website as soon as it hits radio stations. And if they do things the normal way, that will happen before it's available for purchase.

Agreed. I have never, and will never, buy anything with DRM - with the exception of DVDs, since macrovision doesn't work anyways and I can copy all my DVDs with ease (plus my player is region free on top of that).

Well it sounds that MTV might give the album some promotion. GNR has already used the web for the leaks, so they definatly have a knowledge of downloading and things. Im sure itll have tons of promotion in a fairly short time.

IRS got into the top 100 radioplay chart. and that was just a leak with no promotion at all. im sure the single will have no problem.

I cant see the first single being something weve already heard. in 2002 didnt Axl say that the new songs that were played live wern't being considered for singles?

Yup, but at that time Better, IRS, TWAT, and CITR hadn't leaked. So it could be one of those. Who knows. I'm hoping it's something new.

I would love to see an official CD single in the stores - with an alternate mix of the same song as track #2 and a NON-CD song as track #3. hihi

Me too. I'm hoping for alternate versions of songs as well. I know they've been mentioned at least a few times through the years.

@#$%Funker

It's a disgrace that he's advertising his own album? You're in for some major disappointments when Chi Dem drops then.

I thought Better, IRS and TWAT was released by the record company but CITR, IRS '99 and TWAT '99 was from another source?

I still think the first single will be prositute. I dont see it being IRS or Better. Also TWAT could be a 2nd single because most times the first single is always a rocker and the 2nd is a ballad.

TWAT is too long for major crossover radio airplay. The Blues or Catcher in the Rye would be just right. I'll bet it is the Blues. I don't know what the first single will be but it won't be anything we have heard. Better would be a good third single then on to the next album!

Gnr should release their single on cd maxi and on i tunes. They should also let people preorder the single the week before its release to I tues for max sales. I think it would be huge to see Gnr #1 on i tunes or Axls face on I tunes.? This would really hype the album if they did this. They could also stream it on the? offical site a week after its released.

It'd be pretty cool if they did that.  I'd expect for us to have the leak a few weeks before the album drops.  So, if the album hits stores in november.. I'm hoping to hear it 4-5 weeks.

 peace

I agree on most points, but I believe that CD will ultimately reach the successful sales of past albums.. maybe even surpass them.  The release will get media attention globally - It'll make CNN on the day that it's released.

My huge idea would be for Axl to streak across Regis and Kelly (as in "run fast" not "run nude") and then shout, "DEMOCRACY STARTS NOW!!" while giving his famous fingers up. Regis gets a shitload of viewers and people would be amazed, Regis could then pretend to be surprised and be like, "Wow, WOW, ladies and gentleman, Axl goshdarn Rose is here!"

Then he could interview Axl and when Axl gives the release date, Regis says, "Is that ya FINAL ANSWA?!" Then Regis could announce that he's coming back to Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Axl would be the first celebrity guest.

Man that would be nice. Or maybe Axl performing on The Today Show.

Huge idea for first single? release it.

though i do think it will be better, its catchy enough to get peoples attention, it's similar enough to wat's popular right now so it has an audience, and it's different enough so it won't blend into the background hum.
