why in the hell didnt this band actually get to the status GNR got too, was it bad management, i mean they had a lead signer who actually owned a club for Christ sake! Although maybe when Riki got Axl to get him the job on Headbangers Ball it went downhill

i think the lack of legendary status was that they weren't as melodic in their songs as GNR, the singer growls, doesn't sing with rasp like axl. Maybe it was the name? i've never like a band for its name, but some shallow music industry execs think that really matters

What year was this? they may have been seen as a GNR copy cat

Yeah, I remember they were on the fringes of becoming famous.. Alot more people heard "of" them than heard them. Kinda like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is today. Not on the radio much, but relatively popular.

Faster Pussycat were good, but not as good as GNR.

You want to know the reason(s)?

1) GN'R started as a hair/sleaze band but thanks largely to Axl (and I'm not an ass-kisser of Axl's) and his ambitions they surpassed the typical hair band - they took on more of a substance than most bands of their genre. They also had a major hit (SCOM) that appealed to the masses whereas bands like Crue and Faster Pussycat were mostly just straight-ahead sleaze rock - simplistic stuff. I'm not discrediting them, I'm just saying this is what kept them from the mainstream.

2) Lyrics.

3) GN'R had a major image change in the early '90s and their sound heavily evolved. They became a rock band like the Stones and Queen rather than dying out with the hair metal scene.

A GNR like UYI I or UYI II would be more likey to hit the mainstream today than the GNR of AFD simply because of image. If AFD had been released in 1990 it would not have been the hit that it was.

Holy shit! the stuff you can find on youtube. Unreal Shocked

Faster Pussycat were awesome. I have their first three albums but not sure if they came out with anything after.  I found these guys after Vince Neil left Motley Crue. My buddy's favorite band at the time was Motley Crue and for whatever reason he found and latched on to Faster Pussycat. he introduced them to me.  They were like his replacement for Motley Crue hihi  We used to use Bathroom Wall as the third song in our warm ups when I played minor hockey. Those were the days for sure. headbanger

Today I'd bet very, very few people would know who they are even if you said the name, but play the intro to Babylon  for them p - p -p - pussy - pussy - pussy - pussy - pussy - pussy caaaaaat!!! and they'd say "Oh yeah I remember that"  yes

their first two albums(Faster Pussycat & Wake me When it's Over) I say would be closer to Poison and that genre but their third album(Whipped) was fairly heavy but I wouldn't say it was  in line with either Gn'R or Skid row. To be honest Whipped kinda had a "grunge" mixed with hard rock/metal vibe to it.  I dont know if thats' a good way to explain it but.....

Going by that video, they just come across as a poor imitation of GN'R. The singer's wardrobe looks like it came straight from Axl's. I guess imitation is the most sincere form of flattery though... hihi

Faster Pussycat had the hit "House of Pain" or whatever it was called.  It's an extremely heart wrenching song.   Cry

A little past suppertime
I'm still out on the porch step sitting on my behind,
Waiting for you.

Wondering if everything is alright.
Momma said, "Come in boy, don't waste your time." I said, "I've got time.
Well, he'll be here soon."

Five years old and talking to myself.
Where were you? Where'd you go?
Daddy, can't you tell?

I'm not trying to fake it
And I ain't the one to blame.
There's no one home
In my house of pain.
I didn't write these pages
And my script's been rearranged.
No, there's no one home
In my house of pain

Wasn't I worth the time?
A boy needs a daddy like a dance to mime and all the time
I looked up to you.

I paced my room a million times.
And all I ever got was on big line, the same old lie.
How could you?

Well, I was eighteen and still talking to myself.
Where were you? Where'd you go?
Daddy can't you tell?

I'm not trying to fake it
And I ain't the one to blame.
There's no one home
In my house of pain
I didn't write these pages
And my script's been rearranged.
No, there's no one home
In my house of pain

(REPEAT)

And I'm alone again.

(Spoken): Well, if I learned anything from this...it's how to live on my own.

I really liked this song - I remember owning the cassette single, actually.  I also remember this being a big hit for the band, and getting them considerable attention, even though it quickly faded.

House of Pain is one of the best songs from that era. Only reason it didnt become a huge hit is because there was so much good music back in those days.

I think they sound very much the same.

Similar vocalists, same hair metal style, same genre, same era, same "bad boy" reputation.

If you're not a die-hard fan of the band(s) it's very easy to lump them together.

i try not to catergorize bands, but the pretty-boy image of some hair bands just pisses my off, i don't know why, it just does

my friend at school hates skid row because they're hair metal, of course i say they are not hair metal (their first album had those leanings, but slave to the grind hair metal? no way), even if they were who cares?

No not the same style, poison are a bunch of pussies, motley crue on the other hand are not. same image? no motley did one album that was over the top glam in 1985 that being theatre of pain and no one was doing that at the time then on the next album something totally differnt, motley never looked the same twice. posion had the same look on every album and that killed them. See its bands like poison that stupid fucks lump together with good bands who had hair in the 80's and gives them all a bad name. alot of good bands became jokes because of poison.
