I am going to call them right now and see if I can BS my way through. I'm going to tell a few fibs so God forgive me now for whatever sins may occur in the next five minutes. I'll let everyone know what happens.
I think it is funny.....do it..
Russian,
I don't think it'll work because of two reasons: 1. The front desk people dont work for Geffen directly, and 2. You would probably need a name bofore she transfers you to their office.
You can only confirm that unreleased shit is played loudly from the top of the building.
Good luck, though.

Hey Vics thanks for that story and sharing it with us man, i really appreciate all your trouble. i dont doubt you at all. must have been crazy for you
i dont know if this has already been considered, but is there a possibility that what mrvics heard might be a promotional cd of some sort to be sent out for review by magazines, radio stations etc? kind of like how with most albums they (or they used to) send out like a 5 or 6 track sampler to radio stations, magazines etc..

I meant that if something was sent out to radio stations, critics, etc. we would know about it.. unless you are saying that what he heard was what they PLAN on sending out.. I doubt they would send out promo's like that to radio stations, that would be on the net before you could say "Gonna get the IRS"

Okay, the recording didn't work because I had to call with my cell and when I tried to put my computer microphone next to it...well...then I couldn't hear anything being said.
I realized this before the call, so I held the microphone away but couldn't hear anything but my own voice, so I ditched it. I'll just say what happened.
I got the front desk, a guy picked up who sounded kind of effeminate, at first I thought he was a woman.
MrVics said to speak with the girl who was there, so I gave the guy a hard time and when he said "Can I help you?" I said "Eh?" And did this until he got kind of upset. I pretended to be an old man with a bad hearing aid, so he put me on hold for two minutes, then a woman picked up. I said my hearing aid was working now so she asked what she could help me with. I said I was on my way to the grocery store yesterday and pulled into the parking lot outside the building because I thought I had a flat tire but it was a false alarm. I said when I got out of the car I kept hearing loud music playing, and I really liked it. I told her I wanted to know what it was, and she asked if I had been in earlier that day and I said no.
She said they didn't have a way of telling, so I told her can't they check? And she said yes but it would be difficult and take a long time, so I said I would wait on the phone until she found out, because I didn't enter the Vietnam War to risk my live for people like her just to tell a veteran it "takes too long." I started telling her how I lost my hearing because of an explosion back in '73 and she kept saying "Sir, I didn't mean it like that" but I knew if I kept it up she would eventually break, and she did. She said, "Okay, sir, hold on one moment and I'll see what I can do." After a few minutes someone else picked up, some guy and asked what he could help me with, and I told him I wanted to know what music was playing yesterday. He said they had various things playing and he didn't know. I asked him if it was unreleased albums and he said "Most likely."
So he said "I'm sorry but I'm afraid I can't help you, it wasn't meant to be heard by people outside and we are not in the business of selling records to people here, you will have to wait for it to be released whatever it was" and then I said "So you mean to tell me you didn't want people to hear it so you blared it out the window? I could hear it across the street!"
Then he started getting mad and said he had done all he could, and I had been very rude to the receptionists and that if I kept this up he would have to hang up. So I said "I'm sorry, it's just that I'm dying in a few months because I have testicular cancer, I've been going for treatment but they caught it too late, and music has been a way of me coping with this stuff. Whatever I heard yesterday was really moving and I would love to hear it before I die." Then he kind of changed his tone a bit and said, "Whatever it was, sir, I'm afraid you'll have to wait because I don't have a way of telling."
I then said "It sounded like that guy Axl Rose a bit to me" and he paused, then chuckled and said, "Okay, sir, have a good day." And then he hung up.
I tried.

Yeah, that's what I meant like those tracks would make a promo..I realise there is a chance of them getting leaked, hence I assumed at least they would be studio versions of songs we've already heard, that they have been playing live for a fair bit now, so it might not hurt as much..i mean it would be bad regardless but not as bad as unreleased new (to us all generally) tracks getting out

Her reaction when I said I didn't risk my life in Vietnam for people like her to tell me it takes "too long" was classic, I wish I had recorded it. I almost burst out laughing, I had to turn away and bite my arm for a second, it was hilarious. She got really worried and was like "No, I didn't mean it like that, I'm sorry" and I started explaining how my best friend got shot in the head right in front of my eyes, and people like her never would have to go through that, etc. I probably went on for like 1 - 2 minutes, she was really quiet.

that was awesome roulette, respect to you sir for trying
you know what..not exactly flooding...but i think alot more people should give them a call and express interest in what they heard, you don't have to go to all that trouble of trying to sneak past receptionists or whatever, maybe you could ring as an average young music fan and express interest...it seems like the building is in a high traffic area, they need to realise how far out that got heard, and more importantly, the great response and at least maybe things might stir up inside, people will talk and ask 'whats with all these kids calling in saying they heard loud music blasting', 'oh we were checking out final mixes on guns n roses music' 'well the kids are loving it' hey blah blah blah.....sorry its just my own feedback

You obviously talked to the same couple that I met, a cute girl and a gay balck dude, both young.
I think it would have been more effective if you would have told them that you were a friend of mine and you wanted to check with if that was actually GNR playing. ?They would have continued that warm receptoin the offered me and a down to earth, honest approach might have been more effective. ?Just my opinion though, who knows.

That's what I meant in my previous post
As long as people aren't calling up and blocking their phone lines, I'm sure they would appreciate and it might even create a bit of buzz and stir things up if theyre getting calls from music fans who heard this music, what a great response it is etc
