What a madman genius. He was awesome. Loved the guy's writing and his attitude. I didn't agree with everything he said - especially later in his life (he got a bit out there) - but most of it was spot-on.
I also loved his whole style that was born from his devil-may-care attitude. He was always in that bucket hat with the shades and the cigarette holder, what an icon.

Yeah but Kerouac was vastly different, too. He was the father of the beat generation, Thompson wasn't even really part of the Beat Generation, he was Gonzo's daddy.
