I'm a llama!

« on: September 22, 2006, 10:14:08 AM »

So My wife is as big a alice cooper fan as I am a gnr fan. Anyway, she is reading this book called life on palnet rock. The 1st chapter is called welcome to my jungle. It talkes alot about axl, how he hated touring, etc, etc. Anyway, Cooper tells of a night where axl and bach come to pick him up and they are jamming the uyi's tapes in axls car. now, the part that is intersting is that this is 1 full year BEFORE they were released. Now, I remember that time and the only song that was played WAY before on the radio was KOHD. I only think this is relavent because it might support some of the rumors where people have heard the disc already. I mean, he sat on all the good music for over 1 year, before letting us hear it. Sure, They were alot more popular then, and they would throw in new songs randomly in concert, but lets face it, back then they could have sang "happy birthday" 3 different ways and the crowds would have loved it. Just thought you would enjoy that little peice of info, is it relavent today? Who knows, but it sure fits this pattern. Have a good one. Plus I figured it was better than starting another set list topic!

I don't remember KOHD being released in 90. I only remember Civil War. But anyway, pretty irrelevant as they probably weren't the finished prodcuts with all tracks completed, just very good demo's os some possibly most of the songs.. And of course Axl would have them??!

KOHD was definitely released in 1990.  It was on the Days of Thunder soundtrack.  That and Civil War were already out before the UYI albums came out.  Then - they released You Could Be Mine for Terminator 2 a few months before UYI came out.  By the time UYI hit the stores in September 1991, Don't Cry had just been released as the 2nd single.

Yeah KOHD and Civil War were both out way before UYI, and to a lesser extent, You Could Be Mine.

I had a lot of the UYI's songs about a year before it came out.  They were all recordings of recordings on tape so they were getting kind of grainy but they still sounded good.  A friend of mine somehow got ahold of a tape from a friend of his.  That was a long time ago...

yeah - demo versions of November Rain, Don't Cry and Back Off Bitch were definitely floating around for a while - mainly because they were old songs written even before AFD came out.

Yeah, I had a few different versions of November Rain, one was all acoustic guitar, then there was the one with the line "again and again and again and again and again and again" etc.  I had the other songs you mentioned too but I also had a bunch of other songs.  I'll have to see if I can dig that tape out.  It's probably been since UYI came out that I listened to the tapes.

The acoustic November rain demo was old, and not from the UYI sessions at all. I received the "Rumbo Tapes" bootleg CD at least a year before UYI was released. That had demos of the Garden, Yesterdays and Bad Obsession. The rest of the demos were probably finished around the 1990, as I remember they opened up with RIR 2 with "Pretty Tied Up" and also debuted Double Talkin Jive. Once I got a bootleg of that, I got chills just thinking how good the entire UYI would be.

I think that was the tape I had.  What else was on there?

Axl's smartened up a bit to realize extra calories equal extra inches around the waist.  I still think he'd be better off with plain ol' water.  Oh well, who am I?    Grin

It's an energy drink supposedly made with extracted fluid from bull testicles, hence the name Red Bull.

Some of their best stuff from the UYI era was written pre-afd.  No shock there.  peace
