I don't know what the number will be, but my guess is 3 or 4. I am almost 100% certain that "Better" and "Madagascar" will be singles.

The music industry has changed SO much over the years, I don't know how important or prominent singles are anymore.  You usually hear 1 initial single from a band's album, and maybe 2 or 3 more songs.  It's not like back in the day when you'd get ready for a new video to premiere on MTV every 3 months or so.

IMO, the more singles, the more successful a record is.

PTU wasn't a single!  Huh

Go to RELEASES on the main page and click on the respective album.

Garden of Eden wasn't a radio single it just had a video.

drool Who knows? Not really worth discussing IMO.? No one can say for sure, and it's not that interesting to speculate about ok
Great post.
I hope that it will be a brand new unleaked song that we haven't heard yet, I'd like it to be a slower rock song though. The blues would be perfect but I've heard it so many times it wouldn't get me excited.

An average sucess record from a very sucessful in past band usually gets 3 singles. If the record is a hit, then 4-5 singles tops. That's how the industry is working these days.
Take for example U2's "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb". It was hugely sucessful all over the world and it got 5 singles, so don't expect much more from Chinese Democracy. My opinion is that the album will be massive in the first weeks (the fans buying ok) and then... well, it's all up to the singles then... If the singles are hits, then we will probably have 4 or 5 of them.

From what we have heard so far, and having in mind what I just said, the best way to promote Chinese Democracy should be releasing a rocker as a first single, (let's say... Better) and then, more radio friendly tunes, such as The Blues, Madagascar and TWAT. All of these should have a conceptual video ala the old days to play on MTV and there you have it, a very sucessful album.

Anyway, at the end of day, we will always get whatever is on Axl's head... Let's just hope he has there the thought "to release the album"...

Dead Horse, Garden Of Eden and The Garden didn't have singles. As in, 4 song CDs in which each song was the main song, or 7" records.

The death of vinyl killed singles. Its too confusing now with bands putting 5-10 tracks on singles. Usually all just different mixes of the same song. 45s were great because you had the A side and the B side, usually nothing more.

What makes everyone think there will be B-sides though?
The only actual B-side that GNR released was Shadow Of Your Love. All the other songs on the singles were other LP songs, live songs, or a demo (Don't Cry).

Green Day's American Idiot had 4 singles (American Idiot, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Holiday and Wake Me Up When September Ends). I think CD will have 4 singles just like this. My guess would be Chinese Democracy, Better, Madagascar and A New track.

If Oh my god is gonna be on the record then i guess that?s the first one..but i don?t think so at all...

I think the first one is gonna be - Better...because it?s the best...And then i think they?ll do Chinese...because i just think so..hehe..Imagine the video..Axl comes down the stairs into a teenage room..Then the others come in and they start playing..great song, great video...

the third one would maybe be IRS ....

Whatcha think ?

Sounds like an awesome video idea... ok

A single doesn't need to be released commercially for it to be a single. A single is any song the record company decides to specifically market (be it through radio play, a commercial single, a music video, or all three). Appetite For Destruction had five singles (It's So Easy, Welcome To The Jungle, Sweet Child O' Mine, Paradise City, and Nightrain). Use Your Illusion I had six singles (Don't Cry, Live And Let Die, November Rain, The Garden, Dead Horse, and Garden Of Eden). Use Your Illusion II had six singles (Civil War, You Could Be Mine, Pretty Tied Up, Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Yesterdays, and Estranged).

I personally expect Chinese Democracy to produce four singles as I believe the record company will try to squeeze two Christmas seasons out of the release.
