Hey, Rolling Stone and now SF Weekly.  Good find Chief!  yes

Is it me or are they trying to paint Axl as gay at the end of the article?

But I'll be damned if Axl Rose isn't the best Axl Rose impersonator alive!

My fav line of the article!

Seems no matter how positive an author tries to make an article we always seem to end up back at our 2 favorite standby's:

1) "OK, I admit, Axl's new version of GN'R is largely a world-class cover band."

2) "Several of the original tunes the new GN'R plays, especially "Better" and "The Blues," are surprisingly catchy, even if they're not as memorable as Appetite's dark odes to debauchery or Illusion's motor-mouthed psychodramas."

Well, Axl still has a little more proving to do to the casual fan to reel them in.

The article wasn't that negative and it was only someone's opinion.

These guys are just gonna be like Van Halen.  DLR era and Hagar era.  GN'R will get their respect soon enough.

Yeah, Van Halen did it three times with vocalists - which is probably a little worse in terms of fan-consistency.  But GNR did rebuild a whole band... 50/50 I guess.  But it's going well this time around..  ok

I thinks it's so much better than what Van Halen was doing.  Maybe it's just me, but I didn't exactly believe in Van Halen ya know.  Axl's quest is so much more sincere than Van Halen's.

Believe it or not there are people who feel the same about Axl given the way he has only toured off the hits during the past few tours with no album or anything to promote. Some interpret that as a similar cash grab.

We know it's not that.  If it was all about money, he'd have released several albums by now

Really?  I think if he was truly in for a "cash grab", he would've put out whatever piece of shit record he felt like putting out and used that to promote the tour.  But, he hasn't done that.  In fact, he cares an extraordinary amount about the quality of the record he releases.  I think much more so than most artists.

That's true too Naupis.  I guess it's just a way of looking at things.  But EVH hasn't really been trying to work on a new album, he's been trying to re-unite with DLR.  He tried with Hagar and it didn't work out.  And they didn't have new material either.  At least Axl's trying.  (well, on and off anyway hihi)

But that's how I see it.  VH still made good music with Hagar, and I think in the long haul people will like New GN'R.

An artist makes most of his money off touring anyway. So by touring without ever releasing anything Axl is able to perpetuate the myth and granduer of CD without ever having to put his career on the line by actually releasing it.

Touring without releasing an album was the easiest way to make money without having to risk putting an album out. That by definition is a cash grab.

Dude, the tour and the album are two entirely different entities.  Remember, GNR in its current form is as much a business as it is a rock band.   It can easily be argued that the past tour and the upcoming one has more to do with money than promoting an album that seems to be just beyond the next bend.

Also, as much as most of us perceive this band as "Guns N' Roses," it is understandable how many other non-fans do not see the current lineup of GNR as a cover band.  Once you see this band live (as I have 8 times), you can start to see why Axl argues differently.  In fairness, if everyone in U2 were to leave Bono, I'd have a hard time calling the band U2 with just Bono as vocals.

Again, I do consider this band as "Guns N' Roses" 'cause to me, GNR is Axl's voice and his songs are my favourite.  But for many other's, it's Slash's guitar and image.  I don't blame people for thinking differently than the rest of us.
