Of all the pop-stars that emerged in the U.S. during the past ten years, I would have to say that Justin Timberlake, and Christina Aguilera are the only two with real staying power.  Both, actually have talent and can sing.  I think it would be cool to see Christina sing Beautiful with Robin and Richard on guitar--maybe that is what Axl will introduce.  I also, am quite sure, that Axl and Justin are friends.  I think I read during 2002 that Justin is a huge GNR fan, and actually hung out with Axl in Toronto or someplace during that tour.  One thing is for sure, Timberlake has guts.  He opened for the Stones, during his transition from N'Sync into his solo (far more credible) career, and was showered with debris by the crowd for the first half of the show, but kept playing and won the crowd over.

He also came out during the Stones set to perform "Miss You" and had Keith Richards flipping off everyone who harrassed him.

I don't understand the people demanding some sort of announcement at the VMAs. ?It will almost spoil the excitement of getting the new CD (when it actually is announced) by having a bunch of people saying stuff like "Good. It's about fucking time I get what's coming to me" and the like. ?I might just stay away from the message boards throughout the whole release to actually enjoy it.

i mean axl doesnt just come out in a national tv show just to present this is AXL ROSE we are talking about people let's not forget. Something is bound to go down on or off stage lol , anyone know if velvet revolver will be there better yet watch them win the award he presents! haha yea right , would be cool if him and izzy came out though....or slash anyways I'm joking around but I do think something will be said..... Be really cool if he came out n presented n then got off stage and had something about CD on the back of his shirt...

i guess he can`t announce a release date while giving out an award right?

this could be a great day anyways...
Ive never seen anyone announce anything about themselves while on one of these type of shows, wouldnt seem like to place to do that.

a lot of people have even promoted their movie before saying whos the winner of blah blah blah
but i cant see axl announcing CD during that. it would be kinda lame like macey gray's stunt.. i dont know.. we'll just see what happens.

Interview?

He's just supposed to make an appearance and probably hand out an award.

Stop expecting too much.

/jarmo

That's the sane, rational thing to do...but I actually think we may be in for something bigger.
-First tour in four years
-New leaks this year
-New album is coming out in the fall according to Axl

The VMAs would be the perfect forum to announce the release date.

I don't think announcing anything during the show is a great idea.  It's kind of tacky.  I think an interview with Kurt Loder would be cool!

There will be no announcement during the awards show - just Axl reading some cheesy, scripted lines while presenting an award.

Presenter 1: So Axl, where have you been lately?
Axl: Outside - it's nice there.

:: laughter ::

Presenter 1: And here are the nominees...

If you're expecting anything more, you will be sorely disappointed.

If anything it's more likely that an announcement is made sometime during the week and the VMAs are used to hype it.

Some of the ideas here are so cheesy ("Axl wears a t-shirt with the release date!!").

A release announce would be unbelievable.  Id hate to see IRS, Better, and TWAT suffer like CD, The Blues, and Madagascar ... great songs with no album support or mainstream media play.
