What is the deal with this nob jockey?  Why is he popular?  He can't sing, play instruments or write good songs...or can he?  He can't dance, that's for sure.

I have friends who like him but they can't explain it to me.  I think it's an indie boy thing.  People point me to 'Please, please, please, let me, let me, let me get what I want' a lot but that song's pretty tame to me.  The only time i've ever enjoyed it is when I heard Muse's version on the hype machine, which rocks ( http://hype.non-standard.net/search/muse,%20let%20me%20get%20what%20i%20want/1/ ) which begs the question: how come Morrissey can't even make his own songs sound good?? Undecided

Anyone care to explain?

I like a few songs he did with the Smiths, but never could get into his solo stuff. Seems like something is missing without Johnny Marr.

The only two I've ever liked are Bigmouth Strikes Again and There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.

Morrissey is complete shit.

Biggest waste of space the music world's ever had to put up with.

Sure.  He has a wholly unique voice and vocal style, clever, literary lyrics and he writes good music.  He also has a mysterious persona, (somewhat) ambiguous sexuality and overall interesting image.

As for the "indie boy" theory, Morrissey has been popular in some sense since the early 80s, before this perceived "indie boy" complex developed, Im sure.

I can recommend many Smiths songs to you, but I cant see why it would matter.  Youve already concluded that you dont like anything about Morrissey, so why bother?

A grand melodramatic stateman who epitomizes Brit-mope.
Love the last two records.

Well I wouldn't have asked if I that was the case.  Everything i've heard from him sucks but i'm still curious to understand the appeal.  All popular music has an appeal otherwise people wouldn't be so crazy about it.  There are exceptions to be found in pop music but you know what I mean.

Morrissey is boring. Some of his lyrics are ok, but it?s nothing but backround music really.
Though I love the Smiths song Girlfriend in the Coma.
