http://www.highland-news.co.uk/news/fullstory.php/aid/352/Achtung_Nessie!_Loch_anglers_in_Dores_drama.html

Personally I think it's a pleasiosaur. There are sightings of similar creatures in many lakes and bodies of water around the world. Japanese fishers found a dead carcass in the '70s: http://paleo.cc/paluxy/plesios.htm.

There are reports of "Nessie" dating back to around the 1400s when a pastor was walking down a road and wrote in his journal that an enormous beast passed in front of him, across the road and disappeared into the lake.

Whether or not it still exists it wasn't always a tourist trap and at one time I firmly believe some type of plesiosaur or prehistoric creature lived in the Loch Ness.

I've been there myself and it's so large that it would be easy for something to exist in there and not be spotted for years. If it died back in the '40s or '50s that would also explain a lot.

One scientist suggested it's the offspring of a plesiosaur having mated with a whale that might have found its way into the loch through an ocean inlet.

Yes, and I think it's hilarious that someone would suggest it's a basking shark.  rofl

Look at the thing's friggin' neck. There's no way that's a shark.

BASKING SHARK:

People then claim "there's no way it could survive extinction" - yet the Giant Squid has been known to exist since the 1950s and had never been seen alive until 2004, and this fish was long thought extinct: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coelacanth, yet one was found recently - alive.

Plesiosaurs would have to come to the surface to breathe (unlike the giant squid or any fish), so we would almost certainly know if they were still around.? Not to rule out that there isnt anything there, but plesiosaurs are extinct.

But this would explain why these unknown creatures such as the Loch Ness Monster allegedly break the surface and then go back under again. If they are coming up for air it would make sense. There is also a Nessie-type creature named Champ in America and footage was caught on video last year by a fisherman and his son. It was broadcast on the news by CBS (I think) and the footage definitely showed something swimming right under the surface.

It's not that unfeasible. The gilly bits and jaw often drop off first during decomposing apparently. Imagine this basking shark with no jaws or gills all manky and rotten:

It seems a little funny to me that people spend a lot of money to come to Loch Ness from all over the world, and it's just 10 minutes up the road from me, and I don't really take it in or go there often. Does anyone else get that about tourist attractions they live close to?

I'm less than an hour from both the CN Tower and Niagra Falls....i never go to either...it's just something that people take for granted if they live close...tourist attractions aren't unsual for locals. I f i ever make it to scotland there is other shit I'd like to check out first peace

It has been reported by people in the field there that the government-funded search (yes, it was actually funded by the government there) captured two or three "Bigfeet" (or whatever they are) and they are in captivity, but they haven't acknowledged it yet. Someone allegedly had a picture of the creature and posted it on a Cryptzoology site but then it was pulled down - I don't know if it was proven to be a fake or not.

But people who are out there in Vietnam or wherever the search is going on have said that numerous ones have been spotted for sure, and they've even done sketches of the creatures.
