Please Return to Philly

« on: August 25, 2006, 10:18:24 AM »

I wanted to create a thread where Philly area forum members can express their support for a GNR return to Philadelphia.  I want to see Axl and the crew return to this area and put on a kick ass rock n' roll show.  My gut feeling is perhaps they can play the Tweeter Center in Camden NJ right across the river.  I just wanted to say publicly that I will definately get tickets despite anything that happened in 2002.  This is not a thread to complain about the December 2002 incident.  It is a thread for Philly area fans to show their support for a show in our area!!!!  So if your from the area, and want to see GNR play in Philly, please show your support!!!!

I'm with you. I will be there. I had first row seast for the 2002 2nd show and that is the past I'm ready for the future..

Bring  the GUNS to PHILLY.

They will come do not worry, it is a big market with many diffrent venues they could play in the area.

The fans will go that is a fact  ok

Camden is officially the most dangerous city in America two years running. ?Add that to the fact the Axl bailed on the Philly Show (which probably had at least some Camden residents). ?I reckon Axl should stay away from there. ?

I have been a GNR fan for most of my life. ?I am from Philly and 2002 was the first concert that I attended. ?At the time I was crushed at what happened with the cancellation and blame placed on GNR. ?Without going in to it too deep all parties especially the venue were at fault for the riot/etc. ?

After that night my need to see GNR live intensified and I waited another 3 and a half years to finally see them at Hammerstein. ?I agree with PhillyRiot I wish they return to the Philly area and prove naysayers wrong and regain respect from radio and fans.

As far as venues near Philly they can play:

The Spectrum
The Center (Money Talks)
The Tweeter
The Borgata

And maybe an intimate setting at  the AC House of Blues

Not sure about Electric Factory or Tower

I'd love to see them come back to Philly as well. I will definately buy tickets again if they come. They've been scheduling small sized venues so far so I would be inclined rule out the Tweeter and maybe the Wachovia Center (or FU Center or Spectrum whatever the hell its called now) though obviously I don't really know what the hell I'm talking about. I'd love it if they played somewhere ridiculously tiny like the Tower or the Electric Factory but that seems like a long shot. Probably the Borgota in Atlantic City. Hell, maybe they'll do two shows in Philly and one in AC or something equally awesome.

And we know they can never go west to Hershey after the last one. ?ok What a show that was ?beer
Banned for life yes

But you also have stuff in Allentown and Wilkesbarre where they could play.

It will be spectrum or tweeter I would almost bet on it. It will happen

Yeah, I agree, probably 2 shows at the Tweeter, & 1 at Borgata.. Maybe, Maybe the Spectrum (older sports arena) instead of Tweeter shows..? Wachovia Center is pretty much right out.

Also, to the person who feared a Camden show because it's the most dangerous city in the country??? nervous? nervous? nervous That'll have zero bearing as to whether GnR plays there. The venue is completely segregated off from the heart of the city & quick access to the Philly bridges..

eh they can come back but im not seeing them there... philly fans are so fuck obnoxious (and i'm from around there so im allowed to dog on it), every concert ive been to in philly has been full of eagle chants and people complaining.  Add that to axl screwing us over before it'll be tough to totally enjoy the show.

ill take the MSG show, even though it's New York i know he wont bail on us there.

good thread. and i agree, gnr needs to come back to philly. i will certainly be there.

axl knows he has a huge fan base in philly. the wachovia center was sold out in 2002. and there are alot of potential fans, including plenty of fans from back in the day that will be won over again.

i took two people to the hammerstein shows who were very skeptical of this band and axl's abilities. they both loved the shows.

tweeter in camden makes alot of sense. reading is another place near philly they could play (about an hour drive). and temple's liacouris center is an option as well.

but money talks, i don't think they'll have a problem playing at the spectrum. ?

You were the ones who created a riot, maybe if you didn't then there wouldn't be any concern if thet are going to play there or not.

don't accuse us of that shit!!!!!

it was a small group of people that started and participated in the riot. the large majority of fans there had nothing to do with it!!

I think its more likely that they'll play the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre. They were scheduled there in 2002, but they cancelled it to make it the second Philly show.

Wilkes-Barre is 2 hours or so from Philly, and its a nice sized arena. Sits about 10,000 or so.

Regardless, if they come to Wilkes-Barre, Philly, or NYC - I'm there!  ok

I'd see them in Wilkes-Barre too, it's a workable distance for me if they can't/aren't allowed to come to Philly. Even Holmdel, NJ isn't too far to see a concert. Back in Philly though, do they have winter concerts at the Tweeter Center. I've been there about a million times but only in the spring and summer. I'm going to see Maiden there on Oct. 7th but it will still be warm then. Do they eliminate the lawn and just have a cover or something come down and enclose the seated area in the winter or do they just not have concerts there during that time of the year? If the latter is the case then maybe they'll play one or two shows at the spectrum (though I would prefer the Wachovia Center as the spectrum has the worst sound I've ever heard when it comes to concerts).

the tweeter center has metal walls that come down during the winter and it becomes a small indoor arena (been there in febuary for A Perfect Cicle in '01). i could definitely see them playing there, or the electric factory, or the spectrum, but not waccovia.  actually after hammerstein i think that i wouldnt want to see them in any place where i had to sit far from the stage.

well i think that there's a big chance for the philly fans to see gn'r.. i think that the only thing would be if axl they would cancel it.. because if califrnia is getting all those concerts i think the philly will at least get one show...
