Honestly, I think it's stupid that this is even an argument. In the long run, does it really matter what objects we actually call a planet, moon, star, asteroid, meteor, comet, etc...

wel if it has an orbit around the Sun then isn't it a planet?

ahh i see they say because the orbit overlaps neptune then it's not technically a planet

well what about neptune then it overlaps pluto's orbit hihi

i thought there was 2 or 3 more planets found farther out from pluto

just cuz some people don't like it doesn't make it not a planet...that is fucked up and your right kinda a dumb argument

I think Pluto has just been classified as not a planet. Oh my gosh no? crying

Maybe Xena Princess Warrior will be named the 9th planet.

Hercules the Legendary Journies hopefully will make it as tenth.

Yes. Pluto IS a planet and I won't stop thinking it is until Hell freezes over. Fuck the IAU, they don't have the right to make people stop thinking Pluto is a planet! It orbits the Sun and it has a moon of its own, THEREFORE its a planet.

I'm thinking of making a bunch of "PLUTO IS A PLANET GODDAMMIT!" tshirts... Grin

Honestly, I think it's stupid that this is even an argument. In the long run, does it really matter what objects we actually call a planet, moon, star, asteroid, meteor, comet, etc...

In the long run, does it really matter if we call a glass of water a glass of water or an elecric guitar?

I think these things do matter, and as more information is gathered, I think it's pretty good for us to change our views based on that, not be stuck with old concepts just because.

Humans as a species categorise things, that is how we in part communicate. Sure it can seem that it's not that important of a thing to an average person if Pluto is a planet or not, but to people working in the field of astronomy.. it is. And I'm sure that they could memorise that Pluto is a planet although none of the other things like it aren't. But that really isn't the point.

Cut them some slack. They're astronomers. For them, interesting things happen once in 70 years or so. Now they've demoted Pluto. Next they'll say something called UBX23323 is the eigth planet.  Roll Eyes
