I don't have a link or reference, but I recall the reason it's not played anymore is because Axl said he would not play the song without Slash.  This came up around the time where Velvet Revolver started covering some GN'R stuff like You're Crazy, but said he'd never play something like Sweet Child O' Mine without Axl.

I believe that it would be an insult to play without Slash, who painstakingly wrote the guitar parts for Axl.

To clarify the context used:

You have a song that has a very personal meaning to you, and your guitar player seems to surpass himself by taking it up to another level with his guitar parts - why wouldn't you be particularly appreciative about something like that? Credit where credit is due.

It's not played live because the new band cant pull it off. You could also factor in how much of a failure the song was as a single, but it comes down to the fact that it's too much to ask from this band.

Please... the new band could pull it off just as well as the old band, which btw, was only so-so.

This band could play it, but I think that they want to keep the 9 minute songs to a minimum.  November Rain is enough of the really long songs for 1 concert.

You could start a thread like this for a lot of songs we haven't heard. ?I don't think anyone has ever flat out asked if the new band would learn every old song. ?I'd imagine they will not. ?I thought I read in here though that Richard said perhaps they may play Civil War at some point.
