Brain seems fine for this version of GNR, I'm not sure a hard hitting Grohl-esque type would fit the material.

thats true, with all thats going on (keyboards etc..)

thoughts on a an Abburruzze type then? He had a lot of finnesse

From what I've heard and seen Brain is definitely a drummer in the right direction.

I've never liked Matt and his stiff style of drumming(the same fil over and over again, u know the one i mean *laugh*).

Even if Steven is the least techically drummer of those three you just can't beat his groove and timing!!!!!!!

Brain was on FIRE May 12th when I was at the Hammerstein Ballroom...no doubts at all.

He was playing those songs like Axl had a gun to his head screaming: "Play motherfucker! PLAY!!!" hihi

What I dont get is, if Brain is the most talented and precise drummer Gn'R has ever had, why is his parts on the new songs we've heard so far so simplistic its almost funny...

I guess Im just waiting to hear some trade mark fills, or maybe Checkmate to change my impression of his parts on the new songs...

Checkmate sure sounds like it has drums in it... Wink
i think that he likes simple beats..
some of his drumming with primus is very simple..
but are very good..
you dont have to beat the shit out of the toms and use a double pedal to drum solidly

Never said he had to beat the shit out of his kit to qualify as a solid drummer, Im just surprised after a pretty damn impressive 2 and a half minute drum solo at Rio, his parts in the new songs might be a little more challenging then what we've seen thus far... Undecided

One mor thing:

I've noticed that Brain uses headphones pretty much all the time. It also sounds like he's playing to a "click" which I think suck big time!!!!

Does anyone know more about this?

I think the headphones are just monitors and ear protection.  He never used them with Giant Robot, Primus, or CCBBB when I saw him.  His timing is spot on and Les frequently refers to him as a human drum machine so I can see where you think he might be cheating but he is just that precise.

i thought brain was great last night, an excellent perfromance. one question though, why is it that before velvet revolver, no one thought about giving matt some serious stick? is everyone sop shallow here, that they feel they must berate someone in another band, because they see them as a threat to something they love?Huh?

just a thought y'know, i don't have any prefernce, i think they are both great, just don't see why matt gets so much stick?

I've just watched "nightrain" from Rock am Ring and Brain fucking rules on drums...DAWN!! Shocked
The dude is SICK on that tune! I hope we will hear this kind of drumming on the album. he is the spiritual son of Abe Laboriel Jr (probably the best drummer in the world) Grin

Honnestly, I'm completely blown away right now. This guy NEEDS his own appreciation topic. What about this one? Tongue

He's one talented mofo.

Almost as good to watch as Robin Finck.

BUT I wouldn't mind seeing him spread the love to Frank Ferrer. There is no reason at all why the band can't have 2 drummers.

Yea I know, he rocked in that, and he still rocks today! Of course he's going to be drumming like that in the album, I was at the May 15th show, and man can that guy play the damn drums. He is simply amazing, well at least for what he does. He brings a spark to the band that can't be matched.

Glad I could help ?beer

I love his drumming.  I don't think any of the newer tunes we've heard particularly highlight his talent either. I think we're gonna hear some amazing work on the album.

Listen to the drums at the end of Catcher in the Rye...some lurvely fills going on there.

Brain is quality. He doesn't fuck up the intros...they aint that difficult...he just plays them differently
