I kinda see what you're saying here, but I don't completely agree.

comparing Buckethead to Hendrix is wrong, but on a technical level, . but Hendrix was the one that made that whole way of "virtuoso" playing relevant.

and I would say about the same thing regarding Brain and Bonham.
IMO, as a drummer, Brain is better technically than Bonham was.

True, but Hendrix and Bonham were NATURAL players, Brain and Buckethead are not. It's mental craze vs. cold profession.

Brain, well, he's a drummer...? And when it comes to drummers for me there are drummers and there was Bonzo - if you know what I mean. I just don't agree with the comparism nesquick made, it's an insult to Bonham.

Buckethead is lighyears ahead of what Hendrix ever was

I thought so too for a minute or so, but seriously, pop in Ladyland and pay close attention to the right channel. Mute the left and just crank up the right on "Come On" and "Gypsy Eyes". I play guitar myself and I really look up to Buckethead, he's amazing, an inspiration, but this guy is not even in the same building as Hendrix. I doubt anyone will ever be. Anyway, I just made that comparism to show how unsuitable it is to compare Brain to Bonham.

and btw, Steven Adler is and will probably always be my fav GNR drummer

My brother played me some of 'The Brown Album' (Primus) recently. From memory, there were some beats on that that were very reminiscent of John Bonham, although naturally because the music is so different to Led Zep not many people might recognise this.

I personally am really looking forward to his contribution on CD - more so than I would if Sorum was still in the band...his drumming is too predictable now.

Jesus Christ, are Saul and I the only GNR fans that actually know what sarcasm is?

Angry  Pardon me?!! Saul?  confused

Actually Many of us got his joke. Maybe it's something to do with the cultural traits?

Some people are quick off the mark, some are slow but still better than those who won't appreciate anything new until it's been long established as firm as a rock and never to roll again. Brain rocks and rolls at present.

That's that.

well that album was produced in a very Zeppelin-ish way really.
you should check out the Antipop album, I don't think you'll find many similarities between Brain and Bonzo after hearing that one.

I hear ya Conny, Hendrix and Bonzo were natural players, and Brain and Bucket are somewhat schooled in what they do, and they have a cleaner technique because of it!
so I guess we agree here in a way, lol.

Id like to hear Josh Freese personally cos I liked his drumming on Chris Cornells album (also APC)

I dont really know Brains drumming, it's got to be better than old "lead-foot" Sorum. Sometimes he plays with groove, (Locomotive) but too often he strangles the feel I reckon

Adler was the man for GNR

I guess everyone, except jimmythegent, is forgetting Josh Freese.

Josh is probably the best session and live drummer drummer there is nowadays.
Just listen to the drums in Oh My God.

Freese rocks my socks off, eventhough I think Brain is cool.

Freese is better, Brain is the 2nd best GNR drummer so far IMO.....with Matt 'no groove, no style" Sorum being the worst by a long way.

GNR need someone who does that punk rolling drum style and is excellent at percussion. Not anyone too technical or overly bombastic.

I have seen him live with Gnr and with Bucket. I saw the old band 7 times. Brain is easily the best drummer Gnr has had. Good combo of rhythm and power. He is a cross between Adler and Sorum. Just my opinion. peace

Much as I like to heap praise on the members of GnR, drummers are all fairly similar to me unless they have loads of personality like say, Keith Moon.

I agree Brain is very good and is the best GN'R ever had (in my opinion).

I still think Tool's drummer is better though. I need to hear Brain on the album though to compare in all fairness. But that's gonna be pretty tough to "beat" Danny...(listen to Vicarious from Tool's latest album if you don't see what I mean).

I must add to my last comment though, that Brain is doing a great job with the old songs and I think he shows himself well in songs like Madagascar.

Still though, my favourite GnR drummer so far has been Adler. Dude's drumming just sounds cool.

Will, I didn't say he is as good as Carey Grin...no way...but he is better than Sorum and Adler, at least in a live setting. Now, we will obviuosly have to wait for the record (not the leaked tracks) to determine his value in the studio.

I think they are refering to (sketchy on the details here so dont quote me) an email interview HTGTH conducted with him a few years ago. When asked if he'd still tour with GnR he replied "only if they pay me a bucket-load of money" or something.

I didn't say you said it either. Grin Wink

I think Brain jokingly said in an interview a while back too that he was in GN'R for the money, or something like that. Some people thought he was serious. lol
