Pearl Jam?s Latest Hits Rock Band on Day 1

August 3, 2009

Pearl Jam?s new album Backspacer will debut as a Rock Band download Sept. 20, the same day the CD hits stores.

What?s more, Target will offer an exclusive edition of the album that will include download codes for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Rock Band, according to Billboard.

While Jack White of The White Stripes may find the prospect of people discovering new music while playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band ?depressing,? more artists are embracing the popular music games as a way of connecting with fans. Guns N? Roses and Metallica have made their most recent albums available as playable videogame downloads.

A standalone version of Rock Band featuring fan-selected Pearl Jam songs has been rumored for release next year, and many of the group?s earlier recordings have already appeared in Rock Band: To coincide with the March 2009 reissue of the band?s debut album, Ten, the entire record was released as playable tracks for the game. Consumers who bought the special edition of the CD at Best Buy earned three Rock Band bonus tracks.

PJ ON TARGET: In its first project outside the major label system, Pearl Jam has made a big-box deal with Target for Backspacer, the band?s self-released Sept. 20 album, while also making the LP available through indie retail and iTunes in a characteristically populist gesture. The band is also rumored to be making its first video in ages. It?s an eye-opener that first single ?The Fixer? is burning up at radio without a major?s clout behind it, hitting Top 5 Alternative and Top 10 at both Triple A and Active Rock. (8/13p)

Would this be last night's setlist at the O2 Arena?  If so, that's one of the best shows I've ever seen in my life.  Absolutely fantastic.

Pearl jam are incredible live - gutted I couldnt make it to the London gig, but have seen them before a few times and always been completely blown away. They are spine-tingly good live!  Definately worth getting their official recordings of their live shows, the quality is great and Eddie's voice is really one of my favourites ever to listen to.  Their gig at Reading festival in 2006 was a stunner, there were misty eyes all around the crowd..!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2xo7NoQNfU  Love Boat Captain at Adelaide 03 , stunning sound... amazing gig

How was the 02 atmosphere and sound?

Amazing show. It was the kind of arena show that didn't feel like an arena show at all.

Sounded great.

Eddie seemed genuinely touched by the crowd's response to their music.

Saw one of the most amazing things I've seen at a show happen when Eddie told the crowd to take three steps back. He counted to three and the crowd actually moved back. It was like watching a huge wave on the floor.
