Waiting for Promised Land....

It falls under the "shit happens" category.

That may be the case, but "Shit" seems to happen with this band more than most it seems. Or at the very least, given his history he is rarely afforded the benefit of the doubt. There is no blame to be handed out, just the mere fact that a continuation of the status quo in the states will kill the band's comeback.

We may not be "owed" any update on CD, but by continuing to perform shows with no acknowledgement of the albums existance you lump yourself in with the Poison's and Motley Crue's of the world who tour around to big crowds as a nostalgia act living off past glory. GNR deserve better than this.

Well, I would argue that playing new songs like "Better" and "I.R.S." are in fact acknowledgements of the album and its imminent arrival. ?

As far as shit happening with this band more than most, cancelling tours in part or entirety due to vocal problems seems pretty common to me. ?Axl missed not even two songs on the whole tour.

This was the first leg of what will undoubtedly be a very long tour. ?I think it would be best to be patient and reserve judgement for now.

I think the only thing worth mentioning about this is that it is kind of funny that the last GN'R song of the tour didn't have a single original member of the band. ?

Regardless of why it happened I just hope he gets this drama out of his system before he plans on touring the states because it is just not going to fly over here if he ever plans on being anything more than a carnival act in the future.

He needs to pull it together and anounce a release date and follow through, as the European tour amounted to nothing more than a nostalgia based cash grab. I want to see them be successful, but there needs to be some album info before he can start any type of U.S tour, otherwise he runs the risk of being viewed as a Poison/Motley Crue type nostalgia act. I was really holding out hope that out of 30 some odd European dates we might get some type of update as to what is going on with the album.

The ending to tonight's show seems to be a microcosm of this bands existance. Everytime they build some momentum and get your hopes up some type of incident occurs that takes the wind out of your sales. Disappointing end to an otherwise reasonably successful tour.

First off, we are not owed any update as to the album's status.? Second, this ending is only deeply disappointing if you assess blame, which you obviously are, although unjustly.? You don't know what happened to lead to Axl's health problems, so don't judge.? Getting sick or blowing your vocal cords isn't an "incident".? It falls under the "shit happens" category.

Ali

I thought his post was pretty on the money. I never fail to be amazed by the "we're not owed anything" responses? Do you want the album? Are you not a little hyped for it after waiting 15 years? You may not feel youre 'owed' anything, thats fine - but Axl has been talking about releasing this thing since the late 90's, we're just showing we give a shit - many dont.

Regardless as to why he left early, it does seem that momentum loses steam at the most vital of times

He better address this shit before US tour - although this European jaunt could be perceived as reasonably successful, it provides plenty to work on, most surrounding professionlism on Mr Roses part

It's funny in a 'Kick Me' taped to someone's back kind of way  Grin  As long as it doesnt overshadow all the good stuff this tour brought us, then it deserves a chuckle or two.

I really hope he didn't ruin his voice and that he is ok because I am already planning to see them when they come to Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Axl = Zidane
he fucked-up the end  Grin

Just joking people, just jocking!  lol  peace

 rofl rofl rofl

but really, I hope it wasn't nothing real serious.. I would rather have him walk off because of stress or to much partying or whatever lame excuse if that means he's not seriously ill or in danger.. you know, high blood pressure can be serious.. I wish him all the best and hopefully he will be better tomorrow, and his voice comes back in full condition

the only thing that I would put against him would be the acoustic gig he did last night.. I know it was something made out of good will for the fans and all.. but profesionally speaking, he should have put tonight's gig in first plce given that fans who attended today paid for their tickets... this gig was more important than doing an acoustic gig for some lucky fans.. but then again, that's the only thing he should have thought better... and I DO appreciate the fact that he sang all he could while feeling ill today.. that's something to be grateful, he was risking his health while doing it and thanks to this the fans today had only 2 songs missing and not the entire concert peace

If its true he had high blood pressure then he by right shouldnt have even performed tonight. It wasnt a head cold or something like that he had. high blood pressure is a serious thing.

I'm thinking "blown vocal chords" was the excuse Bach made up and "High blood pressure" was the excuse Merck made up to hide whatever the real problem was.

If he had high blood pressure before the show, maybe Axl felt faint and decided to leave the stage before collapsing.

I think that's likely what happened. I'm sure the man didn't want it to end this way- if he'd put himself through the show, I'm sure he must have felt pretty acutely ill if he couldn't manage the final bow, and a see you next year.

And busngabb, stress cannot cause hypertension. It's a myth. High blood pressure for a minute or two, yes, but not pathological and not enough to feel at all ill.

Stress can wreak havoc on the body, and can be so overwhelming that I think it's impossible for someone to make such a wide-ranging claim as the one you just made.  There's a lot the medical profession may know about the human body but there's much, much, much more that you guys have yet to figure out.

http://www.deliciouslivingmag.com/healthnotes/healthnotes.cfm?lang=EN&org=nh&ContentID=1033009

This site says stress has been linked to hypertension.

http://www.webmd.com/hw/hypertension/aa26776.asp

Here it says excessive (more than three beverages per day) alcohol consumption can cause hypertension.  We all know Axl has downed a lot of beverages this year.  I'm not criticizing Axl, just pointing out a fact.  busngabb is probably right when he says it was self-inflicted.  That doesn't mean I agree with him in trying to assign blame.

I think it was cool what Axl tried to do tonight and he shouldn't be getting ripped apart by fans who are upset they didn't get their big surprise.  Hell, I was looking for that too and I think Axl being ill may have led to us missing something, but so what?  We will just have to wait a bit longer.  It's so easy to criticize with the benefit of hindsight.  Axl probably just took on too much.  A 28-year-old Axl may have been able to pull this off, but not a 44-year-old Axl - that's something he has to learn.  Let's not hang the man for making a mistake, which to his credit he almost ended up salvaging.

I'm sure it is... there is really only one or two people overracting because of this (and no one FROM the show so far). ?The rest of the board is just jumping on those people and it's making it seem like a bigger deal than it really is.

Fusion, of course alcohol can cause hypertension, but generally not in a man Axl's age without a sinister cause.

You expect me to believe delicious living magazine? It's just a trashy lifestyle thing. Trust me, I'm a professional at this- stress does not cause pathological hypertension.

Anyway, the real issue is that we should all be wishing Axl well, and thanking the band for the fantastic tour they put together for all of us.

Someone should start a "Get well Soon, Axl" thread. ?Although, I'm sure if someone did, there would be a bunch of haters posting that it's all his fault and he doesn't deserve it ?Roll Eyes

So I won't make the thread. ?But I hope he does get well soon. ?My dad is in the throes of hypertension right now and he refuses to get it treated. ?I have seen what it will do to a man Sad ?Thankfully, Axl seems to listen to the people who love him, so he stopped before he could get himself hurt. ?

Whatever the reason for the problem tonight, he did his best to give the people at the show the best show he could. ?He deserves some credit for that ?peace

I just don't see this last show as a loss of steam at all. ?I see it as a brave attempt to finish out the tour despite whatever health issues Axl may have had. ?

Why people bash so much on Axl?? What would you do if you were in his situation?? Would you end the show because there wasn`t any original member of the band playing paradise city or would you give almost everything the fans wanted??

You know what concerns me?

The pics from that acoustic gig.

go look at them again.

people have commented on how red Axl gets at times and that drinking may cause that.

Granted, cherry_bomb said it was hotter than hell in that acoustic gig.

But look at the pics of Axl and look at how extremely red his chest upper body is.

Could that be a sign of hypertension? Undecided

Nah, not bog-standard common-or-garden hypertension. Skin redness comes from capillary bed dilation, not arterial pressure; they can be linked in some random syndromes, but I'm not going to start speculating based on some pictures from a club! I don't think there's a link here, anyway.

TBH I think we're best waiting for a press release from Merck- if it is a genuine health problem, we've got more to worry about than the release of an album and should wish Axl all the best.
