It's absolutely normal: they are not Slash, and they are not trying to copy Slash... they are capable musicians and they are playing their own style. It's the right thing to do, because they are not a tribute band, but a true band.

I'm absolutely happy.

i wasnt talking FINCK bbf ETC, just as a band that was known for SCOM and WTTJ in the earlier days now being more like a chord based band than the past

I wasnt talking FINCK bbf ETC, I was talking about a band very good and whit it's own style, a band that I love a lot. Period.

sorry for going a bit off topic, but if you are gonna miss someone, why not miss slash?! its more likely he will rejoin the band.... (at least i hope so)

style changes with each person... evolve... as long as axl stays the fuck outta his "style" from 02 its ok!

firstly I AM NOT BASHING new gnr, just more of a note

does it bother anyone that like the main riffs to songs are mostly played in a chord type style unlike slash's string switching riffs??i noticed it last night just some thing that came to me

it doesnt bother me, at all

what u guys think?

Eh, there is more to Slash than just Sweet Child O' Mine! Most of Slash and Izzy's most famous riffs (WTTJ, It's So Easy, Out Ta Get Me, PC, My Michelle, Coma) are based just around power chords, mostly the bottom three strings. And even now VR's most famous riff is just powerchords. There are a few bluesier riffs, (eg Mr. Brownstone, SCOM, Rocket Queen) but Gn'R style was always based around power chords. The likes of IRS, Chinese Democracy and Better fit the GnR style nicely. But the newGnR are certainly less bluesier than the old boys. Not much change in overall style though.

For an artist, to play the same way you did 15 years ago is not gratifying. You have to evolve ang do something new, that is what keeps it fresh, creative & exciting. You are not an artist, only an entertainer if you just go out and do the same thing the same way over & over.

1st band that came staright to mined...............KISS   Grin

Oh, I do miss Slash.  My guess is that everyone does; that goes without saying (hence why I didn't say it).  But after seeing the band in 02 and 06, I just feel bh had more feeling to his playing than bbf.  Oh, that and the nunchuks (joke!).

Personally I quite like blues based hard rock, so I miss the  old sound, (which, though as someone pointed out was often played using power chords, often had a blues based feel to it - see, for example, using both major and minor thirds in the vers of Mr. Brownstone), but as has been said, we need to kmove with the times.

Of course, until the record hits our stereos, we won't know that there isn't the same blues element, but I doubt it'll be there to anything like the same degree as it was previously.  The new band can't just ape the old band's style.

I hate the shit like " I miss buckethead"....who the fuck is he? It seems like he was so totally important for guns?

No fucking way he was important!!! From where do you get this crap?

I'm not discussing about his (major) talent on the guitar...but IMO he is just one of the new guitar players that passed the revue (as we say this in dutch). And all the shit about bumblefoot (the shit = he is not as good bucket) is also bullshit!! Bumble is a very talented and very nice 'GN'R worthy style" guitar player.
But no way anyone can replace slash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So yes, the new way of playing sometime bothers me. Not saying that it is 'musically' seen as bad or as good but it sometime doesn't feel GN'R to me.
I already hear some of you saying 'grow up and evolve'...bullshit again!! GN'R is GN'R as I first loved them and hope to love them still in the future. They may play their new songs in their new style as much as they want, if it is good, the better for us and all GN'R fans, but please don't mess with the songs we all loved someday...and still do!!!!

I think some of the new riff's have been written by Axl. They have that typical singer/songwriter guitar quality to them: simple and supporting. It gives it a more punk rock feel than before, which can indeed sound more powerfull. I'm afraid it'll be more of the same though (IRS, CD, ...) and in the end nuGNR will sound more and more nuMetal (in the rock songs, not the ballads).

It's a fact that BBF is technically better than Slash, but Finck and Fortus aren't and their riff writing skills are way below Slash's (from what I've heard in the new songs); and I'm afraid that this will make future GNR music slightly more boring.

It doesn't really bother me, it's just that I don't want all the songs to be written that way...
