Here Today...

« on: July 27, 2006, 02:40:54 PM »

On this very website it states:

September, 1990 - 36 songs recorded and GN'R started to think about the album title. GN'R Sucks and BUY Product were two of the titles, but finally they decided to call the album Use Your Illusion. Axl took the name from a painting by Mark Kostabi.
The next problem was the format of the next GN'R release. The 36 songs wouldn't fit on one CD. GN'R wanted to release a box with four CDs. Geffen said no, it would be too expensive for the fans. Finally they agreed to release two CDs on the same day, plus a CD later.

Do we know for sure what specifically the other six songs were?? I started a thread about this in the collection section about a pre-release poster I once saw advertising, like the above statement mentions, "36 songs."

I'm almost sure they recorded versions of "New Rose", "Down on the Farm" and "Ain't It Fun" during the Illusion sessions.? Plus, I'm thinking "Ain't Going Down" was one of the six.?

Any other guesses?

Thank you,

Brian Wallace

Didn't Slash say in an interview once they recorded "Down On The Street" by Iggy Pop also?

"Down On The Street" by Iggy & The Stooges and "Waiting For My Ruca" by Sublime, and "Beer And A Cigarette" by Hanoi Rocks are the three outtakes from the UYI/TSI? sessions that have never surfaced anywhere.

Ain't Going Down, Just Another Sunday, Crash Diet, Bring It On Home, Too Much Too Soon, and Sentimental Movie are the 6 completed outtakes from UYI and are easy to find.

The trashed Illusions Cd will answer your question man. After getting it , I was kind of glad that none of those tunes made the Illusions, myself.

Crash Diet was the best on there I thought, but did'nt care for much else.

As far as I know Crash Diet, Just Another Sunday and Sentimental Movie weren't finished.

I just mean finished in terms that they're full songs. I'd love to hear final versions of those songs!

Unwanted Illlusions has 3 of them...I think Crash Diet, Sentimental Movie, and Just Another Sunday - but yeah, there's numerous bootlegs with these songs on them.

Asphalt Ballet recorded a version that was released on their second album, Pigs. Axl does backing vocals on their version, even though he isn't credited as doing so.

Really knowing Guns n Roses and what music they did , who knows what a good Box Set of un-released material would do . I'd love to see a Box Set of Guns n Roses at some point.

those songs are Appetite for Destruction outtakes.
I remember slash mentioning they forgot to record "ain't going down" for the illusions. even on the pinball game it's the demo that's on it.

i would guess that the all outtakes are on spaghetty incident, otherewise with all the singles released they would've made a b-side. only shadow of your love did, and it was also an appetite era song recoded before appetite.

Where did you hear that they did a cover of Waiting For My Ruca?  I never heard that before.  That would be killer if true and its out there.  I love Sublime.  Between Bob Marley and Sublime its all I ever really listened to back in college in the late 90s.

Crash Diet would have been awesome in a finished version (Im guessing). The demo with Wes Arkeen playing lead kicks ass and I still listen to it a lot today  beer
