Fortus already said in other emails that he wrote solos and added parts for the songs. That quote what he means is, he didnt write any songs for CD meaning, he didnt come to the band with a song and say here is something I started to write then have axl put lyrics to it.

ok thanks. I prefer that version of the story. If he wrote his solos and re-did some parts, then it will be fine for me. I though he was re-recording exactly the exact same solos that tobias recorded 6, 7 or 8 years ago...

nah, the Toronto outro is the best: Richard made his guitar cry. This outro is genius. The first time I heard it, it reminds me Slash.
Nah, you only liked because it reminds you Slash.

Since he referred to his GN'R work as 'it was quick' I don't think he wrote and recorded a lot. It's more likely that he rerecorded Huge's parts and maybe wrote some here and there, but not much. Wonder if he'll be credited for any song.

Well, a band where musicians don't even write their OWN parts is not "a band" for me. Writing your parts is a minimum for a band.

he likely wrote his own guitar parts, I took it more to mean he didnt have much input in the writing of the songs themselves
I'm sure you'll hear Fortus' style on CD in some ways

Same here. Even the stuff he didn't write, he improved - like The Blues and Madagascar riffs.
Please nes, stop bashing and whining, it's annoying. We'll see Richard's style in the CD, but not in the main structure of the songs. Also, who the hell knows if Paul Tobias didn't wrote great songs?
I'm sure Robin, Tommy and Axl wrote most of the songs anyways.

because he was the guy who wrote the outro solo on that song.
Not too be picky, but do you have a source for that?
We know Robin wrote the solo for The Blues but Ive never heard Richard or anyone close to the band say he wrote the outro, despite how brilliantly he plays it.
I'm with you there, the outro on the Pitts version is amazing, the best I have heard it.
Richard has said before that he wrote it.?
As much as I love the Boston promo version, I would go with the Pittsburgh one anytime!
BTW, when I first listened to the promo, I thought it was Brian May!

Nothing new, but I just want to share it:
Hi Jan,
I loved touring in Germany with Nena. She's great to work with and her
fans are awesome. I've never had as much fun in Germany as i have had
with her. I hope that i will be in Germany again this year, but with
Gn'R!
Hope to see you soon,

Im sure Richard has done on CD about the same that Sorum did on the UYI's.
record parts already written, but play them in their own style.

Received an email from Richard yesterday... nothing new really, but didn't ask about CD.

And his answers..
thanks for taking the time to write me. Sorry it has taken me so long
to reply. I'll quickly answer your questions.
1. I do use some different guitars in the studio that I don't use live.
I have a pretty big collection of vintage guitars(about 100). I don't
take many old guitars on the road. The ones that I do are 2 Les Paul
Signatures gold tops (both are '73s). nothing else sounds like them.
I use them live and in the studio probably more than any other guitar.
I also used a '64 firebird quite a bit on Chinese Democracy. I use a
new firebird live. I also have a '51 no-caster that I record with a
lot but don't take on the road (for obvious reasons!). There are many
other guitars that I use in the studio (too many to mention), but live
with Gn'R, I mostly depend on a Trussart Les Paul, my 2 les paul
Signatures, a firebird, a '58 Les Paul Jr. and an assortment of Les
Pauls as well as a Fernandez guitar with a sustainer pick-up (for
Madagascar).
2. I don't know how we will split solos up between robin and I, or if
there will be another guitarist. We'll decide that when we begin
rehearsing for the next tour.
3. i don't have a favourite
4. I don't have any idea if Gn'R will be as big as in the '90s. Only
time will tell. Not really something i think that much about.
5. I've been listening to Millionaire, Subways, Scissor Sisters, My
Morning Jacket, Magic Numbers, LCD Soundsystem, The Living Things,
Kings of Leon, Jamie Lidell, Grandaddy, Franz Ferdinand, Calexico,
Bright Eyes, New Pornographers, Black Mountain, Elbow, Antony and the
Johnsons, to name a few.
6. I don't read the fan forums.
THanks again and hope to see you soon.

Nice guy. The solos answer was interesting. I guess this indicates they haven't rehearsed for an immediate tour as of right now.
It wouldn't take more than a few weeks to get a groove together anyway.
