I think the email is legit after seeing it.  And I don't blame Richard to give a response like that.  If it is legit that guy is even lucky that Richard answered such an email.  And I can't remember who it is but someone said on this thread that he doesn't believe Richard would answer emails from fans.  Well I sent him one in August and he answered on November 21st.  And his answer was quite different than the one he gave to the guy from My GNR.  Here is the email I got:

"Hi ******,
Thanks for writing.  Sorry it has taken me so long to reply.  There are
still some last minute details that are being recorded. The record
should be out in early '06 and a tour will follow.  Don't give up on
us, it will be worth the wait.

Where I put the stars was my real name and as far as my email adress I didn't want to give it out here.  But that was sent on Nov 21st and as you can see, when it is not a hate email you get a more truthful answer.

Whats your point?    Richard's told people before that the record wasn't finished.  The questions in his email have nothing to do with Richard going back into the studio.

Hey, i sent an email to Richard back in september and have just received an email back. Just thought id post it for you all to read 

Hi Stephen,
thanks for taking the time to write me.  Sorry it has taken me so long
to reply.  I've been touring in Europe quite a bit, on top of having a
baby and continued recording.  Thanks for your kind words.  I honestly
don't know when the new Gn'R record will be out.  I do know that it is
sounding truly amazing, and hope that you have the chance to hear it
very soon.  We will be touring once the record is finally released.
