The beauty of Slash is that you can throw him in any genre on any stage and he will probably own the place.. Period.? He is not stuck in one type of music...?

I think he is a great song writer personally!!

yeah he could be with lemmy, lenny, MJ, blackstreet, ellan, or le chic and fucking rock out beer

why does it seem that most new gnr fans don't like snakepit, or even say that was a cool solo or something..  Even though I'm more towards the gnr that ruled the world I can say that's a cool song or solo or something..

Just seems strange that so many guys from the original gnr get overlooked post gnr
Its just that none of the music is particularly memorable.   Sure, Slash has some awesome solos and licks in some of those clips, but in general, the music is really lacking.    Slash's best stuff was his GNR stuff, hands down.   Theres a reason Snakepit didn't have any commerical success.

I'd take IRS and Better over any of that stuff.  Its not like its bad or anything, but just not very good.

You have to be kidding about IRS, right? The IRS riff sounds to me like something Axl came up with himself on guitar. You know, the kind of thing a lead singer with limited guitar skills usually produce: simple chord progressions, dead-easy strumming, run of the mill, everyday licks which could've been written by a 14 year old kid playing guitar in his parents' garage. The vocal melodies are nice, and save the song, but take away Axl's voice and melodies and the song is a complete dud.

I'ld take any snakepit I song over IRS, and most of the snakepit II songs as well.
Better is a very good song though.

As for the "no commercial success" argument: Snakepit wasn't a band, it wasn't even a project. It was Slash and a bunch of guys enjoying themselves, keeping themselves busy.

No, I'm not kidding on IRS.  I dont care how simple or complex it is musically, a good song is a good song, and it sounds better to me than any of those snakepit clips.  (I'm comparing these clips to Manchester IRS)

The reason these songs weren't commerically successful was because they were GNR rejects.  Axl and Duff didn't want to do them(at least not the way the songs were at the time) so Slash made the first snakepit album.   They aren't great or memorable songs.

Yeah, indeed, a good song is a good song, I agree. I find IRS to be mediocre, at best. Allright, I haven't watched the manchester IRS clip, nor have I watched these snakepit clips yet (at work 'n all, you know...). I'm comparing the IRS demo version to the snakepit albums. Maybe it's not really fair, but comparing live performances isn't really fair either, now is it. BTW: listen to "beggers and hangers on", the studio version, with Eric Dover on vocals: he does a killer job there. I've always preferred Eric over Rod; especially live.

The reason these songs weren't commerically successful was because they were GNR rejects.  Axl and Duff didn't want to do them(at least not the way the songs were at the time) so Slash made the first snakepit album.   They aren't great or memorable songs.

A lot of them are great songs, but I guess it's a matter of opinion. Yeah, Axl didn't want to do those songs back in the day, 'cause they were too blues rock oriented for Axl at the time. Later, when Slash was about to put out "It's 5 o clock somewhere" he tried to get the songs back; I guess realising their potential as GnR songs.

IRS is not a good song by any means, the only bright spot was the outro solo by buckethead... The start is blah the song is boring the outro is very good..  Better is a very good song, but take cd it stinks, riyad stinks, silkworms stinks..

As far as gnr rejected songs for snakepit, that is a laugh because of axl's vocals were behind it that entire tune would change for the most part around here

Look at all those leaks, everyone listened to them six zillion times in seven different ways to appreciate them ,.you think the same anti old gnr people gave those snakepit songs the same attention.... People are so band wagon that I bet half never even bothered to listen

just to clarify, i'm not anti-old gnr, i grew up loving that band.   peace  even slash  ok

if something doesn't catch my ear, I'm not going to sit there and listen to it over and over again.   I listened to Slash's stuff a few times and it just didn't do anything for me.   When I first heard Better, I couldn't stop listening to it.  I wasn't listening to it to appreciate it better, I was listening to it because its a catchy fuckin song.  IRS didn't grow on me so much until I saw it live that night in NY.

I'm sorry I even like VR's stuff better than any Snakepit.   Its got some good guitar stuff of course because it is Slash, but beyond that  Lips Sealed

that's fair enough JB, I'm only talking about those with the leaks who sai dwell TWAT took me 5 listens to get into it, and this was better if you used headphones... The point is if you want to you can find good if you listen long enough, or even convince yourself something is better then it is because you've waited forever

1st of all, THANK YOU for the links!!

Thanks for all the thanks...ha.? This shit rocks.. Like Mike, I feel this demonstrates Slash's versatility and the fact he can play cool stuff with just about anybody... Slash is a genuine badass.? Also many say he can't write without Izzy or Axl.. Again, this proves otherwise, some of these songs are fantastic..

I absolutely agree. Some people here tend to say that Slash is making 'Brownstone-type of songs' only. These guys haven't heard a Slash song or plain deaf. I don't want to compare Slash's versatility to anyone's, but if somenone listens Neither Can I, Beggars, Good to Be Alive, Jizz da Pit, Lower, Be the Ball, Back and Forth, Shine, Serial Killer, Life's Sweetest Drug, Ain't Life Grand etc. must realize that these are all very different songs, with various influences. Give the guy a listen.? rant

BTW his guest appearances are great, too.

I ABSOLUTELY agree.  yes

Ppl who say his Snakepit stuff was not memorable and that's why it didn't get much commercial success must 1. be deaf hihi 2. have forgotten that the Snakepit was mostly a small club touring band, sth Slash put together just to be closer to the audience.

well, could someone upload theese videos to rapidshare or megaupload so we could have them all and not only watch them online? thanks Wink

Hehe, would be great! Some of these are downloadable by eMule ( http://www.emule-project.net/home/perl/general.cgi?l=1 ) , but not all of them...

What's even cooler is that Slash said that was one of the songs he wrote for GN'R when he was still in the band, but ended up using it for Snakepit. That's such a great riff! beer

Dam, that shit really rocks!  You know, I think these songs sound cooler now then when the album was released.....  Does Slash ever dissappoint?  I think not.  Great stuff!

Every new gnr tune has "instant" and "classic" in the same line rofl.. Classic can mean old too ok Anyway those snakepit songs are good, I just know many people can't allow themselves to like things outside of axl rose vocals... if people can like the song chinese d then they should be able to like other music too hihi
