From the August/September issue of GIANT magazine -

The article speaks of how kids have the most money around the holidays, so big summer releases are becoming a thing of the past.

The interesting quote is this. . .

"This year Diddy, Justin Timberlake, and even Guns N' Roses have skipped summer to go after year-end profits, so our favorite summer jams will be left to newbies."

I take this to imply that CD was ready for summer release as we had all heard, but that Axl and co. ELECTED to opt for a fall release in hopes of bigger sales.  GOOD SIGN.
