Jim never got a chance to fully fly. Axl might make a comeback.

Axl should have died at 27. We've had to watch him grow old and sport hair extensions.

Axl is 10 times more talented than Morrison, but Morrison was a true pioneer, the first bad-ass rock star, noone can ever take that away from him.

Morrison is THE rock star - no one else comes close.

Morrison as a lyricist was truely amazing. The Doors were poetry to music.  Not to mention the first dangerous rock star. Listen to what he was doing in the 60's. He is so emulated these past 35+ years.  Axl has some work to do to catch up.

However, dead rock stars seem to get the glory over the living ones.

Yeah, not to mention blues artists like Robert Johnson and Bo Diddley. Jim Morrison: the first? Thats pretty mistaken.

jim morrison will always be one of the best no matter what, but axl does have amazing talent, and for me he comes quite close to being able to being compared to morrison in a lot of ways, their quite similar.

I'm surprised so many people actually like the doors, I don't see it.
Lyrical genious? We call these kind of lyrics, "yoghurt lyrics" over here. You know, like in "A Whiter Shade Of Pale". They're a cool collection of words, induced by the dellusions of a man completely doped up and out of his senses. They sound good together, but any actuall meaning one might find in them is probably more of an accomplishment of the listener's mind than morrison's genuis shining through.

Same goes for the music. It's more an endless collection of cool sounding riffs played indistinctively one after another, jumbling some notes and getting sloppier to come to some kind of climax.

Not that I hate it, but I would never call it visionary, revolutionary or even "really good". I usually turn down the radio when the doors come on...

Yeah, to me the Doors sound pretty much like any other band of their time.  The music sounds dated to that period, as well as the voice.  When I hear the Doors, I might as well be listening to Tom Jones.

Of course, many people say that about Guns N Roses.  Most of the world views GNR as just another 80s metal band, in the same category of Bon Jovi, Poison, Winger, Warrant...all those.  The hear GNR and get a retro feeling and it excites them, just like if you were to see a pair of roller skates and remember when you were a kid.
