practice practice practice

you cant just do an exercise once or twice and expect to be faster. try learnig some scales and run through them. start slow and hit every note then try a little faster, hit every note. just keep doing that, it will help speed and accuracy. but it will take time.

try a stylus pick. my teacher just game me one a few days ago, ive noticed improvement already. they have a website just google stylus pick, i couldn't find them at guitar center. $1 each though

Check out John Petruccis book and cd.It got lots of great tips on picking speed.Highly reccomend it!

im not sure, Huh  but like 2 years ago my teacher told me to use a thicker pick and choke up; it definatley worked!

How does a thicker pick help?

You feel the strings better => your accuracy improves => you can pick faster without making mistakes. yes
In fact, speed is an effect of accuracy, if you're damn sloppy when playing slowly, you'll not be able to play fast.
Light picks are for n00bs. Once you have tried a heavier pick, you don't want to play with light ones.
Increase the thickness gradually, don't jump from, let's say 0.5 mm to 1.0. Try 0.7 or something to let your picking hand get used.
Slash uses Dunlop Tortex 1.14 mm (so do I).

this is perfect advice...or you caould just play the shit you already know as fast as possible for you to do it
