Never heard anything about this.
If it's true, why wasn't a bigger deal made out of it?
I'm not a newbie by any means, yet I've never once heard someone mention this.

It's nothing short of very old news that's done and overwith but at least now you know this happened.

It was pretty fucking huge when it happened given the fact that Axl hadn't been seen in like 5 years. Notice the jersey...lol.

Yeah, this was big news around the world at the time, since it was the first Axl sighting in a long while. Gilby Clarke was playing that night at a club with his band the Starfuckers, and Axl just showed up, then went onstage to sing a few Rolling Stones tunes.
Gilby said afterward that he thought Axl was mad at him, but they had a great chat afterwards and Axl was totally cool.

Reminds me of the Sorum-Rose encounter earlier this year.

Hmm. Interesting. Thanks for the info, guys. I knew there was an article about Axl making a surprise appearance somewhere a few years ago, but the one I'm thinking of had turned out to be a fake press release written by an anonymous person and posted to forums. It also re-surfaced with edits a few months before the '06 tour was announced. I never knew about this one though.
So no audio or video ever surfaced from this? I'd just be interested in hearing what Axl's voice was like a year before '01 gigs. I just wonder at what point his voice went from the deep rasp of that Come Together duet with Springsteen to the "helium" voice of 01 and 02.

I wonder why he went from pretty cool looking hair in 98-2001, to the cornrows in 2002 and now.

Probably because he thinks the braids look cool

Yeah...they played Dead Flowers and Wild Horses...I read an interview with Gilby who was pretty shocked about everything. What I can remember was Gilby saying that Axl's behaviour was as Gilby was still part of Guns N' Roses and everything was the same as it was in the yearly 90's.
