GnR + Slaughter = Don't Cry?

Yes, I know this is a silly thread, but considering other topics I've recently seen, I think this is fair game.   

For reasons I still don't quite understand, I dug out Slaughter's "Stick it To Ya" album today.  I was listening to "Thinking of June," and thought, "Damn -for a second, that really sounds like 'Don't Cry.'"  I checked the album date, and it was released in 1990, pre-UYI.  Even stranger, G'nR is one of the few bands thanked in the liner notes.

Now, I'm certainly not saying that GnR "borrowed" from Slaughter, of all things, just curiuos if anyone else has ever noticed the similarities between the main riff of "Don't Cry" and the bits found in "June." 

Probably not, though.

I've never compared the two, but if anyone did the copying I would guess it was Slaughter. I have a DVD bootleg of GNR at a club in '86 doing Don't Cry. It's almost identical (down to Slash's solo) to the one that ended up on UYI. I know the song is at least that old.

Yeah, I didn't take it to mean anything negative. People always make claims about exactly how old some GNR songs are so I just wanted to throw in the oldest date I know of with respect to Don't Cry. I don't own any Slaughter but you've got my curiosity up enough to at least seek out a copy of Stick It To Ya to compare.

Don't Cry was first recorded in 1986. And it didnt change that much in 1991. So looks like Slaughter "borrowed" from Guns.

Slaughter thanks GN'R in the liner notes to Stick It To Ya....as an influence along with a bunch of other bands, so it's likely gn'r influenced that song maybe.

I like Slaughter.. \"Fly to the angels\" and all the other good songs they wrote. Mark Slaughter and Axl are both very good front men and have alot of the same singer style!? I would love to see a duet with Axl and Mark Slaughter and Sebastian.?

Waurio is bang on - the part of Cheyenne by Hanoi Rocks before the song really kicks in is obviously where GNR got the influence for Don't Cry.

Then Slaughter got their ideas for Thinking of June probably from a boot of GNR.

Anyone whose got the Making of Don't Cry will know that Blind Melon were covering Don't Cry before the UYI albums came out because they had heard the song on a GNR demo/bootleg tape (the same thing prob happened with Slaughter) and many people back in Indiana thought that Don't Cry was a Blind Melon song. 

If anything this thread has made me stretch to dig out my old Slaughter vinyls and give Hanoi Rocks' All Those Wasted Years a spin but nothing by Blind Melon - oh no, nothing by them.

Right.  I really wasn't.  Even more, I'm not sure if anyone is actually comparing the two songs at this point, or if anyone even agrees with me.  In the meantime, let the discussion continue!  I will check out the Hanoi Rocks songs suggested by other posters, though...
