I've read somewhere that the last Pope was fluent in 8 languages and adept in 13 languages.

I'm fluent in English and I can fumble around reasonably well in French.

I really want to learn Finnish, Russian, Esperanto, and Yiddish.

Whats esperanto and Yiddish?

Esperanto is the most widely known madeup language. Yiddish also is a small language, that's spoken mainly by a few Jewish people.

Why would anybody want to learn a language spoken by a few people?

a few in this case is about 3 000 000 or so people.. Smiley But a few in comparison to how many there are.

And some people want to learn Klingon as well.. Maybe it makes them feel special...

I just want to learn enough Yiddish so I can inject it into everyday speech, like this: http://www.bergen.org/AAST/projects/Yiddish/English/comwor.html

I had a couple of high school teachers who were fluent in several languages.  One (my 10th grade history teacher) could speak fluent English, French, Italian, Latin, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Mandarin Chinese, and Sanskrit, and could fumble around reasonably well in Arabic and Hebrew.  Another teacher (my 9th grade French teacher), who was born in Egypt, could speak English, French, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Hebrew, and Arabic while knowing a little of a couple other languages (for the life of me, I don't remember which ones though).  They both agreed Finnish is the world's hardest language to learn if you aren't a native speaker of it.  Latin is a close second.

I'm actually testing my knowledge of French a bit right now.  I just bought copies of Sartre's Les Jeux Sont Faits and Saint-Exupery's Le Petit Prince just to see if I can still read French.

Your Gibberish has an Irish accent for some reason. Maybe you've been drinking too much Guinness?

 hihi

For us Finns, it's the most logical language there is!  Grin

I speak swedish and english...

A little bit of french..

And I can understand norwegian and danish! (Had to say those as well, it seems more impressive hihi)

And to those who discussed why Finns must learn swedish in school, that's crazy! Why should you have to learn our language, when we're not learning yours!? How many years are you studying it?

Does anyone remember that guy that went crazy and would only speak Klingon? His family had to get an interpreter in...  rofl I'm sure it's a true story, not an urban legend.
