I think it would be amazing if they did a studio recording of the version of Knockin' On Heaven's Door that they play now-a-days and use it as a b-side or something. Similar to how they recorded the slower version of You're Crazy for Lies, except leave it as a b-side. I think that would be amazing.

It's not really a cover, IIRC it was written by West Arkeen, Axl, and a couple of guys in Asphalt Ballet. Axl adn the guys did a demo ver. with Axl, and then the band AB did an official released version of the song.

I can't remember the names of the guys from AB who wrote the song with Axl, and I'm too tired and lazy to look it up.

yeah that would be cool.. or maybe in like 5-7 years there's another greatest hits album and they record it then.. (the version of KOHD that they play live now)

I cannot access this file...however I know about this song. The original version was recorded as a side project called Smith & Wesson. It included West Arkeen on Guitar, Axl on vocals, a drum machine, and I can't remeber who is on bass...it is either West or Duff. The guy you are thinking of in Ashalpt Ballet is Danny, a childhood friend of West. I first heard this song about 20 years ago.. great, great song...one of my favorites. This version has been floating aroung for years.

I have an idea. Maybe Axl could get the rest of Gn'R to re-record Crash Diet. Entirely new music could be made for it and leave the lyrics the same, so it's like a fresh song. It could be a B-side for the first single as well, as an added bonus. Your thoughts? (I hate that marathon shreding solo Slash plays during the song!)

I haven't given this song any thought in a decade.  I was thinking about it tonight for some reason.  I do remember looking for it back in 1995 during my GN'R bootleg collecting days because I read somewhere that it was released as a B-side on the Paradice City vinyl single in the U.K.  Can someone either dispell or confirm this rumor?

Ok...well how do you propose we get this idea to actually happen? Roll Eyes

I have an idea, maybe Axl could get the record released! What do you think?

They definitely should record some kick ass b-sides with this band, such as Crash Diet, Knockin' On Heaven's Door (02/06 version), and possibly songs such as Sway or Sailing. They could do some amazing stuff for B-sides that wouldn't necisarily be appropriate for Chinese Democracy (or even future albums i suppose) but that would be amazingly done by then band.

Yes.  B-sides are great.  I used to love the great B-sides that Oasis put out.  When they released an album compiling all the b-sides (Master Plan) it became my favorite Oasis album.  The only GNR singles I ever bought were "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Live and Let Die".  The former because it was otherwise unavailable at the time, and the latter because it featured the B-side "Shadow of your Love".  Other than that GNR singles really didn't offer anything great...  I'm OT here.

Regarding Crash diet, does anyone want to take a stab at my earlier question from a few posts ago?  Was this ever released?  I vaguelly remember reading that it was released on a rare UK vinyl single of Paradise City.  I am not trying to start a rumor here, I am just trying to figure out if this is true.  Anyone?

didnt Axl once say it was due to some "biker" and a legal matter the song was never persued any further than a demo? theres 3 versions of it by 3 bands im sure you guys have heard them all as the is old topic since ive just joined this forum i thought id comment on this as i think song is great  i feel its the very "metal" sounding the bass at the verses is brilliant in the tiny version as it sounds heavy and muted which GNR seldom use to this extent as for the solo which obviously isnt slash which is frenzied in a cool way IS wEST ARKEEN a rare yet brilliant track
