It mentions Catcher in the Rye being filmed in China - was this ever verified? I never heard of this before and was just curious as to its authenticity. This was back in 2002 mind you.

I don't think CITR would be the first single... This rumour obviously wasn't true.

I didn't know this article.
Neemo, didn't he say he went there a few years back to travel around? Maybe it's different thing.
I think I've seen a pic of axl allegedly taken in a pub in china somewhere.

I wonder what the first video will look like? (your ideas)
1. (worse case senario) various shots from the recent live gigs
2. (better than 1.) something abstract, shots of locations, the band are not seen
3. A proper video, the band out and about in some place (maybe China) struting their stuff
4. Can't think of a 4th

i found it in part 3 (14:30 long segment) @ about 5:30 mark to the 6:00 mark
Quote
Bach: And than you were telling me the other day that you lived in China for three months?
Axl: Yeah, we went and stayed in China for about three months, Beijing, Shanghai, and Xian
Bach: What was that like?
Axl: Well....he filmed, like.....you know they eat alot of bugs?
Bach: What is it like the Fear Factor show?
Axl: Absolutely
Trunk: How long ago did you live there?
Bach: Did you eat bugs?
Axl: Well, I didn't live there, we just went and stayed there a couple of years ago.
Trunk: A couple of years ago. That inspired the name of the album at all?
Axl: No it was before that but then I just thought I should go. I wanted to go before they banned me. So, you know, I mean Chinese Democracy that doesn't quite work for the government over there.
that is from the transcript @ gnrfrance.
I would assume "we" to be the band but no you are right ppbebe, he didn't specifically say who "We" actually is

The fourth will be his original video idea for SCOM.

Sounds like he started mentioning something about filming and quickly changed topic...

I must check the audio but I guess he meant that china was like someone filmed (=what we see on a certain film.)
On topic, Like voodoo said, Catcher is unlikely to be the first single. Also, I don't see the point in filming a video for the song in china, unless there're better rye fields or something.
@jsg2295 For luck, lets forget about that original video idea for SCOM for now.

My bad it wasn't a few years ago.
From what I can gather some of the members were rather busy in 2004 that they couldn't have been there for 3 months.

This is from Metal Sludge:
We had the following sent to us from a DJ at a radio station. They are doing an interview with Axl and his management sent over the following info to them:
d) He spent some time in China and wrote songs there - what was it like?
- HTGTH News,
December 6th, 2002
Axl was in China before the '02 tour, possibly even before the '01 gigs.
