House of Wax
.............Utter Crap!
maybe so, but you get to see Paris Hilton get shot through the head with a giant wooden stake! Muhahahahaa!!!
Seriously I saw it in the cinema, and when that bit happened, there was resounding applause from everyone in there!!
Yeah, she'd get it though.
I don't have this hatred for her that most seem to, so she's a bit of a blonde, media hungry slut.....
....and one scene doesn't make a film

Yeah but...
... You're a big brother fan! Even more, you're a Nikki fan!,
while personally I think that Kenny is vastly superior.
There isn't enough time in the world to see every film that I want to see. But that's only because I'm lazy. Every film that I want to see probably falls just short of double figures. As such, I doubt I will ever see House of Wax.
The last film that I saw was Matrix: Reloaded. Pure class!

Monkey tennis?
But seriously. You missed not a beat, you didn't turn over two pages at once nor are your eyes distorted.
RevoloutionS!
Actually, I suggest that everybody checks out Film Fours 50 films to see before you are a dead, buried, rotting corpse (does that count as circle composition? Oh my, (like the professor)). If there is ever a list of must see films that is worth your time and eye sight, it will be done by Film Four. Empire is too poppy and Sight and Sound can be a bit pompous. Plus, this one is on television anyway! You don't have to read.
check it.

I just watched Primer....
I have to say that I now HATE movies like this. I appreciate them, but I HATE them.
Reason:
The way this movie is put together means that you have to pay VERY close attention because otherwise you will have ABSOLUTELY NO idea of what the FUCK is going on, and the fact that after I watched it I had to look up an explanation online means that by watching this movie I felt unintelligent and rather dumb...
Its like when someone's just explained something to you using words that they themselves probably don't understand, and that makes you understand it even less than they do.
I would only recommend watching this movie if you are NOT tired, NOT stoned, NOT drunk, completely alone (no distractions), and that you have a really big mug of coffee, because it will dry out your throat and tire your brain trying to work out just what the fuck this movie's about.
Its one of those where you only HALF understand what's happening. You get it, but only to a certain degree, and the rest you have to look up online because there are such subtle things that happen that are SO easy to miss!
My BF totally didn't get it and thought it was shit... but he likes to watch movies that are at least SLIGHTLY entertaining...
I don't think it was shit, but I definitely thought you have to be of EXTREME superior intelligence (aka Stephen Hawking smart! Einstein smart!) to 100% appreciate it and find it entertaining.
I'm not saying don't watch it, I'm saying watch it if you like, but don't expect to be blown away by it... unless of course you're Stephen Hawking...

... Pro dumbing down?
Do you consider yourself to be the peak of what would be deemed "regular" intelligence, at least in youth? I'm not trying to be antagonistic, or suggest that you aren't clever to whatever degree, more I am interested in what your argument is; that if you could not get your head around Primer that the next step up to those that would do is going to be super intelligence, or rather that such an overtly complex movie should have no real place being made, that essentially nobody would understand it. One is more "if I can't understand it then nobody would," the other is a bit more "what's the point." Of course, essentialy they could be the same argument, I was just curious as to what your point was.......
Movies are made for a wider audience than the likes of yourself.
It's people like you that dismiss the Matrix (... of course, you may be a fan of the trilogy. But, like I say, like you is like you.......) out of hand because of the depth to the mythology. The '... ooh, to fully comprehend the narrative structure you have to go further than the movies, 's that all about......' Yet I don't understand why that cannot, at times, be a good thing! It wouldn't work for every movie, and it is employed in very few.
(If you ignore your second sentance get-out clause, I'll ignore mine where I pretend to actually think that you could be intelligent...
...
)
I haven't seen Primer, but now I might have to, if only to come online and lie to you that I understood it extensively.

Clerks 2. I was worried they would really mess this up, but in many ways this tops the first movie.
While it retains the crazy vulgar humor that made Clerks outrageously funny, it has a lot of warmth to it, and you walk out of the theater feeling pretty good about life. The best movie ever, it isn't. But it's the most fun I've had in a theater in a long time. Almost like visiting old friends, as lame as that sounds. Give it a look.

OK, I'm not saying I didn't get what it was about, because I did, its just that the whole thing seemed as if it was PURPOSEFULLY filmed in order to make people pay extremely close attention and try and follow every word said just in case it turns out to be important. And the fact that they all talk so fast, and over each other a lot of the time... rendering it nigh impossible to catch every single word. THAT'S why its confusing, THAT'S why it gave me a headache, and THAT'S why I'm rather pissed off I rented it out... because in all honesty I would rather have watched something else that didn't give me a headache and have to think "Did I miss something?" and then have to check online to see if I had been on the right track all along.
I realize Jim, of course movies are made for a wider audience than myself, I don't doubt that for a second!
Primer is just one of those movies that is like a thought that you overanalyze to death! The fact that at the end of the movie there are 3 Aarons... you wonder... what is the REAL time? Which is the REAL Aaron?
The whole thing is just about these four extremely academically minded men who have built this machine in which APPARANTLY they can go back and forth in time. There's a line in the movie "I haven't eaten anything since later this afternoon!"... and when you watch it, its just thrown in there and you barely notice it!
The dialogue is what makes it all so confusing! They don't explain anything, they just expect you to know exactly what the fuck they're talking about, when you really only understand about 60%.
... its movies like this that make me feel like a retard. I consider myself to be quite intelligent... not a genius, not academic, but intelligent! And movies like Primer piss me off because I always like to understand what I'm watching, and 99.9% of the time I do. Primer is that 0.1%.
And Jim, you are being antagonistic, however much you say you're not being, you ARE being.... just because that is you... the way you are. You LIKE to be antagonistic. You proved it with this line: "If you ignore your second sentance get-out clause, I'll ignore mine where I pretend to actually think that you could be intelligent...)
Pretend to actually think I'm intelligent?
If you think I'm a retard, just come out and say it to my virtual face and quit hiding behind your thesaurus.

Lol, my thesaurus? All right my dear, you know. It is kind of ironic though, don't you think:

What a cut and paste joke of a job you just did! If you couldn't make that out as a joke, then how clear do you want me to do it? Sorry, maybe I should join your lmao out crew, you know, the over emphasis on the joke and all. Sorry, maybe I just enjoy the subtlety. And the most ironic thing of all? I genuinely gave you the credit in as far as that I (honestly!) took you as being intelligent enough to figure out that I was joking. It's not like it wasn't obvious (with the winky wink and, come on, since when have I used smilies?), it was a given as far as I was concerned that you would think I was joking.
My point was, simply, (... the point that I never got to..........) was that, given your 'why talk like this stuff,' why would you have watched it! I know nothing about the film, save that from that it is a bit flamboyant with it's intelligence.
So, why did you watch it?
I have to go. To read my thesaurus. Well, either that or my mate has just pulled up outside. But, you know. I like to blur the lines.

The Amityville Horror.
It was pretty stupid but it did make me jump a few times, especially the part where the guys in the bathroom and that zombie thing is standing right beside him.

Lost in Translation - pretty moving I thought.? There wasn't much of a story but it was more about atmosphere and I thought it was done really well.? A good role for Bill Murray.? 6/10
Apocalypse Now - wonderful film.? It's the second time i'd seen it and I understood the themes a lot more this time round.? I loved it!? 9/10

I haven't seen a film in a good few days, but the last movie I did watch was The Seventh Seal. One of the best films you'll ever see. Checkit!

Count me in as a "hate" for "Lost." I can appreciate the cinematography, it starts off with a great ass shot but it's all down hill from there. Shallow people find each other and...whisper?
Last film I saw was "It Happened Here" a British film which portrays Britain under an imagined German occupation during World War II. I was fairly pleased with it, one thing that stood out for me is how much time the Nazis are given the time to debate their views. The Nazi characters don't do so in the cartoony way they often do in American films but rather uses talking points/ideas one would more realisticly expect from an average Nazi of the time. Far from making him symparthetic it makes the character all the more chilling for the attentative viewer, particularly when he discusses the issue of euthanasia. However I can see why many filmmakers would shy away from such subtlety in a picture (if you need to see why check out the logo of the group known as the "Hammerskin Nation").
