The next that I will see is going to be Troy......
For, revision..... Sure, it has little relevance to my exam. But fuck it. The movie rules!

I loved "Troy" also, I know it may not follow the story to the letter, but I still thought it was awesome.
I watched "The DaVinci Code" last night and I must say I thought it was an awesome movie.
I waited a month to watch it due to bad reviews etc, but I was bored and had a couple hours to kill with nowhere to go and it was the only thing playing so I went and watched it.
It lasts almost 2 and a half hours but I felt like I wasnt in the theater for an hour. The movie is very intriguing and interesting.
If I had a guess, Id say most bad reviews come from those who read the book first.
I know people claim Kubrick's "The Shining" is a classic, but compared to the book I think it truly sucks.
The ending was a tad confusing
SPOILER::::::::::::::::
DONT READ ANY FURTHER IF U PLAN TO WATCH
how did cutting himself shaving and the little sword shape of blood lead him to finding the place Mary Magadelen was buried?
That part confused me.
I saw a bad review where someone questioned the white dove or whatever that stopped the woman from getting shot.
That was an act of God where she was Jesus' bloodline so I thought it was cool and not stupid at all.

Aye. Though, you're likely to find that the people who complain overtly about the ways in which the movie doesn't follow the book, The Iliad, usually haven't read it.
There are certain things that annoy me; I would have liked to see Aeneas have a bigger part, even if it was just during the battles, not to mention the fact that his cameo makes him look useless! Also, though I haven't seen it in a while, doesn't Agamemnon die at Troy in the movie? But a lot of the changes that have been made are for the better. It's not like the film was ever supposed to be a strict translation of the Iliad anyway, which ends after Priam gets Hector's body back.......

I found the way Achelies died was beleivable and fit in with the myth (heel) well.
I like Troy better than Gladiator.

I sincerely hope that when they make the Odyssey it DOES stay true to the book. If they change it I will be very pissed off. I read that in Classics, and I thought it was awesome, so I bloody hope it follows the book well!!

^Correct. A modern classic in my book as far as comedy goes, one of the most quotable movies in recent times as well.

Well... You have to understand that when I say that the movie wasn't supposed to be a strict translation of the book, it was more because it couldn't be, rather than that the producers didn't want it to be. One of the chief themes in Homers Iliad, the horror of war, could never be displayed on screen as it is in the book; not visually, but the technique would be impossible to recreate without people leaving after half an hour.
The Odyssey is difficult because, if you remove the god's, you'd have to add a fair bit of new material. Sure, there are parts of the book that, as a trasnlation to a movie, would write themself. But, as with the Iliad, you can't create a movie with a chief theme of Xenia, and expect people to want to watch it..........
Anyway, I'd rather they gave me a crack at making the Aeneid first. Nobody will care if I fuck that one up. I'll have a go at the Odyssey a bit later..............

^they managed to make a pretty gross display of torture in Passion of the Christ! So I'd say they could do a bloody (pun not intended) good job at displaying the horrors of war in the Iliad if they did it right!! People wouldn't walk out if they knew what a good film was!
Anyhoo, on Monday I saw Poseidon, and that was... I think quite good... although not as good as the original.
And last night I saw The Omen... and ACTUALLY I thought it was good! It followed the original pretty damn close! Only changing a few things here and there and adding a few bits.
Creepiest bits ... the dream sequences (especially the bath one!!), and the part where they open the grave and there's a jackal skeleton in there. That bit's in the original but for some reason I don't remember it that well....
Oooh also the bit where they meet that old priest... the one who was in the fire... that's fucked up!

Though, would it be a good film? My point was that they wouldn't be able to recreate Homer's technique, which wasn't just about ultraviolence killings... though of course that was part of it. The major technique was to give (what feels like...) thousands of characters names, fathers and backgrounds. To show that many, many good people do die in war, on both sides.
Also, as I said before, a strict translation wouldn't even include the wooden horse.............

I saw 'Da Vinci Code' the other day, and I haven't read the book, but I thought the movie was pretty good. But some may not like it, I'm just into those kind of movies.
I would reccomend it to people, I really liked it.

Actually the place which inspired the movie was Thailand... (apparantly there is or was a place there where English and American tourists could pay to shoot some unknown peasant in the head...) and the people of Bratislava are actually quite angry with this movie because it has more or less killed their tourism... that's the only thing I don't like about that movie.

Home sick yesterday so I watched a few old ones along with 2 that I just bought:
Waiting...: The Ryan Reynolds playing the same character in every movie (Except Amityville) thing is getting old. Vince Vaughn he is not. Still had a few good laughs in it. No "Office Space" however.
Running Scared: The 2006 one with Paul Walker, not the Billy Crystal & Gregory Hines one. This movie was fucking intense. A fairly standard plot, with a few twists, but some damn good acting across the board and some pretty intense and graphic action scenes make this a potential cult classic. I'm glad I bought this one, easily one to pop in when nothing else sounds good.
