I havent seen it, it just doesn't interest me. It also isn't that original, go watch Midnight Cowboy, a true classic.
I admit I've never made it all the way through Midnight Cowboy, but I don't understand what you think it has to do with Brokeback Mountain, except that it has "cowboy" in the title.
And I doubt anyone who hasn't seen Brokeback Mountain could begin to understand why exactly it is so original and extraordinary.

There was a major underlying gay theme to Midnight Cowboy. Again, I havent seen Brokeback Mountain, but from the people I have talked to that did see it; they said it was nothing special and thought it was only getting attention because of the gay theme.
Midnight Cowboy is a tough watch, but offers great performances by Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman. By todays standards it is very tame, yet it still managed to win the Picture of the Year despite an X rating.

Correct. First and, I believe, only.
Also watched Chasing Amy last night after spending all day quoting the movie at work
"And then, Black Beauty couldn't take it any more and he finally did some of his own mounting."

yes...but there's no reason why you cant appreciate them both. They are fresh in my mind because Midnight Cowboy was recently shown at Arclight as part of the AFI 100 greatest Movie Quotes series. It is a grittier movie, no doubt, but it tells a different story. I think part of the reason could be that Brokeback (the original story) was written by a woman, and portrays it from a different but equally compelling perspective. I do recommend seeing both.
It's not fair of me to force you to like both, but it's not fair of you to advocate skipping the newer movie for the older one. If that was the case, we might as well stop at Casablanca for the ultimate love movie, and ignore everything that came after that...
I will be watching A Streetcar Named Desire in just a bit. I've heard it's fantastic, and I'm about to see so for myself.

I didn't mean to imply that both cant be appreciated. I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain so I am only going on the feed back of some friends that have seen it that usually share my taste in movies. My only interest would be Anne Hathaway, and I can watch Havoc to see her.
Hopefully you are watching the "Streetcar" with Brando. That movie is great. I still think "On the Waterfront" is his best, though.

If it's not your thing, that's cool with me
Not all of my friends were moved by it, but they're older than me so I dont know if they were just too cynical or what.

yes, with Brando. I'm just getting into his movies after I saw him in Apocalypse Now. He was brilliant in that.

I liked him in Apocalypse Now as well. He about drove Francis Ford Copalla crazy during the shoot though. He completely rewrote the ending to that movie. He kept causing delays in the shoot because he had a provision in his contract that he would get paid more if he had to be on set more than a certain amount of days.
A total basket case but the greatest actor there was, in my opinion
