I watched the Village yesterday.
Shyamalan is by far one of the best directors working in Hollywood.
Screenplay as poetry, film as art.
It can take me over 2 hours to watch an hour and a half Shyamalan film, being that I have to rewind and rewatch some scenes...That's how good they are.
Didn't the film get rubbished in here?
Why?!
Shyamalan is a director of actors, and one on one scenes are always incredible. For example Pheonix's speech on the porch to Ivy...
Oh, beauty in film, so it's true.

In the United States, the film was marketed like a horror/suspense type flick. So everyone who went to watch it, expected "sixth sense, signs" type stuff.
When it was what it was, it was an enormous let down.
I personally hated this movie and it still is probably one of my least favorites.
Now honestly, I probably should rent it and watch it again and Id probably enjoy it.
But expecting one thing and getting the quaker we scare u into staying a tight community, blind girl walks from the woods to town.... love story just left a bad taste.

I loved the movie, the more I watch it the better it gets.
He has a new one coming out with Paul Giamatti as the main character and Bryce Dallas Howard as the female lead again. I saw the trailer before the Harry Potter Premiere, I will be there the day this opens.

You know whats wrong with this kinda movies, they classified them in the horror category, but instead of thriller or something like that, is like Skeleton Key I spect something really creepy but instead I get an unrban legend and nothing creepy at all, but the suspense was good and thats it.

If you do see it again, pay close attention to how the actors say their lines. It's beautiful.
But I guess I can see your point(s).
I mean, if I invited you round to watch a football game, and then shows you some artwork. or read you poetry...
...No matter how good the poetry, then I guess you'd be leaving in a bad mood.
Speaking of football, I just bought Friday Night Lights. I assume that you've seen it, D, do you think that it's as good as people say it is? I probably won't get around to watching it for a while, because I have quite a few other DVD's to watch first, but...
...I could always move it forward.
Oh, and by the way...
I wouldn't actually invite you round to read you poetry...

Like D said ,The biggest Problem with the Village was the marketing .
I watched the movie a while ago and take away thinking it going to be a horror movie and the movie is very fuckin' solid.
Just finiished watching Pulp Fiction again ,The movie never gets over played at all .

Friday Night Lights is a very good sports movie and even better its based on a true story.
I watched it once at the theater but havent watched it again.
I need to rent it again myself.
Its a solid movie.
If u like football, human element stories and all that, u should like it.
Journey's been wanting to rent "The Village' for awhile, so we will more than likely watch it and Ill give it another chance.
I just remember sitting in the theater and after about an hour of nothing, I was thinking "This is the worst movie Ive ever seen"
However If I watch it from the perspective its intended, ill more than likely care more for it the 2nd time around.
Do any of u ever watch DVD's with the commentary on?
Ive been into this lately, taking movies Ive seen a bunch and watchin with commentary to learn new things about it.
Im gonna watch Fight Club later with the commentary on of Ed Norton and Brad Pitt.
That should be amazing.

Good call. Definitely watch all the "Jersey Chronicles" with the cast commentary turned on. They spend most of the time busting on each other about how bad an actor Affleck is or how Kevin Smith is a horrible director. Alot of it is as funny as the movie itself.

Assault on Precinct 13 - Pretty good movie with Ethan Hawke.
Code Breakers - Another good movie about the 1951 cheat scandal at West Point academy.

Has she seen it before?
If she hasn't tell her when you watch it not to try and work out the twist. Unless she already knows it...
It's really not the kind of smack you in a face 'christ I didn't see that comming...' kind of thing that is challenging you to work it out...
It is much better if you just let it unfold by itself.
Or.
If Journey comes in this thread, she can read that for herself.

No she hasnt watched it yet.
When I watch a movie, I never try to figure it out cause that ruins the experience.
I let myself be surprised, shocked, scared and all that.
U can make any movie stupid or shitty by your attitude goin in.
Like the "Saw" movies.
I dont understand how anyone could say they knew what was gonna happen in parts 1 and 2.
to me that just doesnt seem possible.
Im gonna watch Mallrats,Jay and Silent Bob and the rest of em, Clerks... with commentary.
I just really like doin that now for some reason, its interesting to learn new tidbits of info that u didnt know.
