And, while we're on the subject, what well directed films are floating around at present?

Go see Good Night and Good Luck

I watched an old David Lynch film, Blue Velvet, last night.   I had never seen it before, so I was expecting to be mystified, dazed and confused as with other Lynch movies (Muholland Drive, Twin Peaks, etc), but this one miraculously had an ending grounded in reality.

I got to thinking...if I stumbed across a severed human ear in an open field, would I be compelled to dig deeper into the mystery and just leave well enough alone.

I was being rhetorical, but all the same, I'll check it out if I can.  Smiley

Earlier I watched Con Air and A Hard Days Night. Both are great films, though, for different reasons.... A Hard Days Night is a great film to watch when you're really not sure what type of film you're in the mood for or, if you're even in the mood for a film... and Con Air is one of the best action films ever made. Good (enough) script? Good actors [Well, truth be told, incredible cast]? Absoloutly absurd action sequences? Sickly sweet ending? And, one of the greatest bad guys ever played on screen. One of many, may I add....

I caught Lord Of War tonight at the cinema. I quite enjoyed it. It had something to it rather than just bang bang guns for 2 hours

Okay, D.

John Malkovich, yeah?

Well, that's one reason that you have to see this film. I'm not going to lie and try to give this film angles that it doesn't have, because you're not going to have to think too hard while watching it. Don't make the mistake however, of labelling it a dumb movie... If you have ever enjoyed any action film, ever [and I would bet my last steak dinner that you have], then you have to see this film. Hell, rent it, and if you don't enjoy it then I'll give you your money back.

This film really is, that...damn...good.

Edit: Nicholas Cage? I'm not too big on him either.

It's pretty good for a slasher movie.

Jon  probable does some of his best acting in it.

Con Air fuckin' rocks.  There's tons of good one liners, lots of shit blows up, and it has a good cast...Cage, John Cusack, Malkovich, Buscemi, Dave Chapelle, Ving Raines.  One of my favorite action movies.

Yeah, it is the Nicholas Cage one. When I mentioned Malkovich, I was giving you a reason to watch it, not correcting you, if that's what you thought.  Grin

I got my Escape From New York special edition today. Lovely stuff. I watched it earlier, and I might try and watch it with the commentary before I go to bed. Carpenter usually does a great commentary track.

The Amityville Horror - horror nonsense. This remake has the worst editing I've ever seen.

saw Broken Flowers a couple of nights ago - really liked it.  Bill murray is fantastic.  if you're a lost in translation fan - go see it!  If not - then it probably wont be your cup of tea.

Regarding Saw, i think it's pretty creative which is a curse for Saw II, perhaps will be predictable. Anyone planning on seeing it?
