I just saw Osmosis Jones (2001), you know that half animated/half live action movie with Billy Murray as the human and Chris Rock as a white blood cell.
 
The movie was very funny, but was kinda tampered by the young daughter of Murray's character who was a very typical Hollywood "Look at my mom, I'm acting!" type of child actress who was unlikeable.

Bill Murray was a riot (No GNR fans, I don't mean the Axl kind) and Chris Rock was much better than he ever was in the movies released after this (Down to Earth,Bad Company,Head of State).

Pretty good movie. I've been wanting to see Van Helsing and when I saw the previews to Underworld it looked cool and interesting. Plus you rarely go wrong with Kate Beckinsale.

Underworld.

Pretty good movie. I've been wanting to see Van Helsing and when I saw the previews to Underworld it looked cool and interesting. Plus you rarely go wrong with Kate Beckinsale.

I went wrong with her twice.

In watching the two movies that you just mentioned. 

Van Helsing was such a mess, although Underworld was reasonable.

But saying that...I did 'enjoy' seeing both movies, but would never choose to watch them again.

Because I catologued it in my mind as "nowhere near as good as the first two" I, for some reason, deduced that it had been a bad movie. Not at all. It's probably as close to the first two as we ever could have hoped.

And it also left me asking the question:

Is the Terminator trilogy title music the best part of a score ever?

No film, NO film would be able to get away with a joke that cheesy these days, but it totally works.

I just watched Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines on 5. Shit. I forgot what a great movie it was. I hadn't seen it since the cinema. Because I catologued it in my mind as "nowhere near as good as the first two" I, for some reason, deduced that it had been a bad movie. Not at all. It's probably as close to the first two as we ever could have hoped.

no, No, NO, NO, NO!

A thousand times, no.

It's absolutely nothing like the first two.  It's a parody of the first two.  It has no style, it has no class, and there is absolutely no way it should ever be assosiated with the first two.  Here is why:

1)  John Conner - wtf?!  In T2, Edward Furlong was really fantastic as John because he captured the fact that he was gonna grow up to be a great military leader one day.  He was smart, resourceful, and not afraid to break rules to defeat the enemy - "we've got Skynet by the balls now, don't we?".  In T3, he's a whining little pussy who, for some reason, can't accept why all this is happening to him (even though he understood it all fine in T2) - "why is this happening to meeee, I didn't ask for any of this, booooo!"

2)  The comedy.  The Terminator films are not comedies, but because stupid western audiences can't concentrate on a film for more than three seconds without some stupid joke being cracked, ruining any kind of tension or style.  The scene where Arnie gets his clothes does to Terminator what Austin Powers did to James Bond - it's all a complete parody.  Aside from the occasional Arnie one-liner, there was absolutely nothing like that in the first two.

3)  That stupid bitch of a villian - need I say more?  There was nothing remotely menacing about her, she had no screen prescence and added absolutely nothing to the series.  Did they just think they could throw in a couple of extra features onto her and we'd cower like we did with the T-1000?  Also, that "I like your car" line (which she then followed with "I like your gun"), was stolen from T2's "say, that's a nice bike".

4)  Kyle - or rather, the lack thereof.  He wasn't even referred to throughout the whole damn film!  He's only John Conner's dad, for fuck's sake!  In fact, nothing at all from the first thing is referred to, almost like they don't expect their audience to have watched the original.  I wonder why...

5)  Clare Danes.  Not that terrible an actress but come on, what the hell does she add to the film?  She screams and whines a lot sure, but they had John Conner for that already.  Seeing as Linda Hamilton was too smart to wanna touch this film with a barge pole, they decided they needed some kind of girl character because only a good scriptwriter would be able to make a whole film with just John and Arnie talking, so they threw in some shit twist saying that she becomes John's wife and second in command (a story which, of course, goes nowhere).

And finally...

6)  James Cameron.  Oh dearie, a Terminator film without James Cameron is a bit like GnR without Slash.  He wrote the fucking riffs - just leave it all to him!

Yeah i was so fucking dissapointed with T-3

T2 was a big part of my childhood. I loved that movie, it had class. I mean "Hasta la Vista baby" and him on the Harley with Bad To the Bone in the background, man it was just so good. Remember how arnie blows the holes in the T1000 with the shotgun. Man everyone knows of that. Its part of pop culture that movie.

Veronica Guerin

I really like this film, although a sad one. Based on a true story.

Back in the mid 90's, I remember reading about her death and her investigation into Dublin mobsters and their ties to drug trades. But in doing so, she paid the ultimate sacrifice, her life. Her story to me then and now is inspring. For me, this is one of Cate Blanchett's best roles. I definetely recommend this movie.

You must have expected too much. I enjoyed it, both times of watching. I'd probably use the term 'popcorn flick', even though I hate it, to describe it. Not exactly a film I'd buy on DVD though...

Getting back onto 'good' cinema (note conventional use of the word), I watched the Battle of Algier today. Any fan of cinema has to see this film. From a 50's film with Neo-Realist influences, I wasn't expecting to enjoy it all that much. Because, I'll be honest, I fucking hated Rome Open City. But this film is amazing. Really, really good, go and watch it.

Club Dread

Just watched it a few hours ago and despite the bad reviews i thought this was class, i know i may be biased since it starred Bill Paxton my No.1 actor but this was very funny.  Ok it had cheap written all over it but if you take it for what it is it is damn good, in a way it's faults make it funny, you laugh at the jokes and also how bad some of the film is overall great laugh worth watching Stoned/Pissed

What, and you were hoping for anything more than a 'popcorn' flick from modern Hollywood? You're living in a dream if that's the case.

I said as close as we could have expected. Maybe I should have been more specific. As close to the first two movies as I could have expected.

Oh, and I'm sure that your opinion on that film has changed drasticaly from when we originally had the Rise of the Machines thread...But, that's quite possibly just me going crazy.?

The last movie I watched was...Jules et Jim. (Not me, I'm not in it......They're French, anyway.)

Referenced by directors such as Tarrintino and Scorsese as inspiration, and a classic of cinema, apparantly the public are divided on whether they love or hate this film. I probably fall into the latter. Maybe it was partly down to my mood (I wasn't feeling great), but I did not enjoy this movie. I did not like any of the characters enough to give a shit about who 'got the girl'. (By the way, that last sentance will give you an entirely wrong view of the film, as it isn't a 'contest for the girl' as such...Even though it actually is, kind of...)

Danny, have you ever seen Twilight Samurai? (You fall into a category of people that I guess would really like it......)

Just to add my 2 cents to the terminator debate...I enjoyed the third installment as well.  I thought it was great!  But as UI said, I didn't expect it to be anything more than an action movie, a popcorn hollywood action movie.  and viewing it as just that and nothing more, it was a great movie.  nonstop action and some really cool scenes.  And also, the first movie was about just as epic as this one.  I love the first one, but having just recently watched it I realized that its really nothing more than one big chase scene.  granted, it started the entire series and was revolutionary back then, its really not any deeper than #3.  #2 is pretty much the only one which can be viewed on "epic" proportions.

Last movie i watched-Envy.  I had already seen this in theaters so i knew what to expect. Jack Black and Ben Stiller are two of my favorite comedy actors so i had to own this one (my girlfriend bought it for my bday).  Anyway, i realize its a terrible movie but it does have a great cast which includes Christopher Walken.  i really enjoy certain bad comedies though like dirty work or kung pow.  because they are just so bad and have so many dumb jokes in it.  its a lot better than a movie like say, eurotrip, which is indeed a bad comedy but tries to take itself seriously.
