Te last film i saw in the theater was Avatar in 3d. First of all, i am not a big fan of 3d movies (although they have come a long way from the red and blue glasses of my youth). I do like them, but the glasses kinda get on my nerves after a while. (Funny story -- i went to see friday the 13th in 3d in the theater and at the time you were only supposed to put your glasses on for the 3d scenes. I was completely stoned when i went and i left my glasses on the whole time. The girl i was with was like "you only need to put them on for certain scenes". I was SO wasted, the whole thing looked 3d to me with the glasses on, even the non 3-d scenes. I remember thinking how everyone else was missing out on some good shit while they had their glasses on their heads). Anyway, one thing i can't stand even more than 3D is CGI. To me, it always looks really fake. When i was young (i'm 42 now) special effects involved making miniatures, etc. I was a huge fan of the original Star Wars (saw it like 20 times in the theater when i was 10). Back then, to have 100 stormtroopers, you hired 100 dudes in stormtrooper outfits, and it looked real to me. The new Star Wars movies, to have 10,000 clones, you make one CGI clone, and multiply it by 10,000. looks totally fake to me, almost like "Roger Rabbit" type shit. So, i go to Avatar w/ this negative attitude toward 3D AND Cgi effects. But, i am a big James Cameron fan, which is the main reason i gave this movie a chance. But i do go into it with the attitude that it BETTER impress  the hell out of me. I'll tell you what -- I FUCKING LOVED THIS MOVIE! I felt like the aircraft they used were full-scale working aircraft, it looked to me like it was actually filmed on another planet (beautiful!), and as far as the N'avi people go -- i felt like James Cameron atually hired a bunch of real aliens to play the parts!!! I loved the movie, and i am planning on going to see it again in IMAX with my daughter. The theater was completely packed when i saw it ( as apparently most showings are) and it was wonderful to sit through a movie without seeing one single person stop to send or receive a text while they were watching the flick. Thank you, James Cameron! I guess a lot of "Hollywood" people think he's a dick for any number of reasons, but I thinnk he is a true genius and i am happy that this movie is shattering records. Do yourself a favor and go see this movie!

Youth in Revolt

hilarious! Good flick!

I also saw this. Michael Cera plays similar characters in most of his movies, but its still very funny.

The Book of Eli

It was good, but unfortunately I found out what happens at the end beforehand. Angry Probably would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't...

I am seeing it tomorrow, possibly. I hope it is ok.

Dec/Jan has been poor for films on the whole

It is interesting that the Oscars have 10 Best Picture nominees this year. It is the way things were prior to WWII apparently.

Great to see 'Up' in the nominations. It is not often you see animations there. They often carry the best stories.

UP was fabulous. I still need to see AVATAR on IMAX. I saw WHEN IN ROME this past weekend. very disappointing. I can't believe they didn't promote Heath Ledger's last movie very much. I really wanted to see the Imaginarium but it wasn't playing at alot of theaters, it was only out for 2 weeks and the weather was bad on my days off. Just one more month til ALICE IN WONDERLAND! I've already hit HOT TOPIC for merchandise. hihi

Saw Avatar in IMAX 3D. Wasn't sure if it'd be much different than regular 3D, but it definitely was. It felt like I was on Pandora. Everything was more vivid. The final battle scene was fucking incredible. If you go, you might wanna get your tix in advance. This movie is still regularly selling out, especially at the IMAX theaters. Also watched "The Hangover" on DVD. I thought it was pretty funny.

Pelham 123 - with Travolta and Denzel Washington; terrible, definately avoid.

Funny People - really good, albeit long. The dialogue is still really strong and the story well-constructed.

Star Trek - amazing. I'm not a Trekkie by any stretch, but I was really impressed with this one. Strong acting and story, and really cool special effects.

Inglourious Basterds - I wasn't expecting much since Tarantino's last movie didn't do much for me but I really enjoyed this one. The diologue is sharp and the humor in much abundance.
