DEPARTURES. A beautiful Japanese film that won the Academy Award for best foreign film.  Very poignant, bring your tissues!

Gran Torino: Sad, but a damn good movie. Clint Eastwood's constant racist remarks were hilarious.

Haha, I remember seeing that in the theater and laughing my ass off....there were a whole bunch of people who were uncomfotable because it was like they didn't know if it was ok or not to laugh. Whatever, it was damn near a comedy to me until the end.

Still buzzing about Gran Torino, and I only saw it once in December.  Come to think of it, that was the last movie I saw in a theatre.

Gran Torino has some of the funniest,  politically incorrect lines ever.

Walt Kowalski: Oh, I've got one. A Mexican, a Jew, and a colored guy go into a bar. The bartender looks up and says, "Get the fuck out of here."

Thao Vang Lor: Excuse me Sir, I need a haircut if you ain't too busy you old Italian son of a bitch prick barber. Boy, does my ass hurt from all of the guys at my construction job.

Walt Kowalski: [to Su] Get me another beer, Dragon Lady! This one's running on empty.

Walt Kowalski: Relax, Zipperhead.

Barber Martin: That'll be 10 bucks, Walt.
Walt Kowalski: Jesus, what are you, half Jew?

I work part-time at a cinema, they screen the films for the staff (well, actually, the projectionists have to run it through to make sure that it works all right) the day that they get them in, which can be up to a few days before the release.

The Proposal

Great Romantic Comedy flick.

I saw this movie on friday, really good lots of laughs.

Then I had to watch it again today with my mom and sister, still just as funny the second time around.

I liked it.  It was poignant but funny too. I'm also proud I was able to pick up a few words here and there. Still need the subtitles though!

Some people hate subtitles and some hate dubs.

I personally dig shin chan dubs.  yes The chinese democracy release billboard in the future story was just soo off and out of the blue.

CHERI, a film about a retired courtesan's affair with a much younger man. A heartbreaking art film about a twisted but genuine love. Michelle Pfeiffer is so beautiful and so are her clothes.
MY SISTERS KEEPER, a very intense and moving film about a family's struggle with a child's cancer. IT wasn't quite what I expected, I was really moved by the sweet love affair between the two teenage cancer patients. The book's ending was way more powerful than the movie's ending.

PUBLIC ENEMIES. A great film that guys will love. Johnny Depp makes you feel great empathy for John Dillinger. For all his faults, he was truly loyal to his friends. And If I were Billie Frachette, I totally would have fallen in love with him. The movie makes you think, who are the real bad guys in this world. The prison system was largely responsible for creating John Dillinger. Sending a young man to prison for 10 years in the state pen for a $50 robbery? And the FBI and cops were fairly corrupt and egotistical themselves. The doomed love affair between Billie and Johnny was very touching.

WALL?E (2008) - I thought this was a very enjoyable film. I believe it's the first Pixar movie I've ever scene as well.

Henry Poole Is Here (2008) - This was better than expected. I hadn't heard much about it but decided to give it a try and enjoyed it.

The Dark Knight (2008) - This movie turned out exactly how I thought it would be. Over hyped is an understatement for the film. Heath's portrayal as "The Joker" was the only thing that was worth seeing. Everything else was typical 'shove your face with popcorn and candy fat ass' while you watch the movie.
