The Cable Guy

Disturbing, and brilliant.

I really liked it smoking

I love that movie, but everyone I know hates it.  That porno password scene was hysterical, especially when the mother blurts out "TIT!"

But yeah, it was kinda dark, so all the Jim Carrey fans after seeing Ace Ventura and Dumb and Dumber were like, what the fuck?

They talked about it on Film 101 for a good hour after they showed it, and one of the things the critics they had on kept stressing was how misunderstood the film was when it first came out, and how it's still misunderstood by alot of people.

People were expecting Jim Carrey to make them laugh in another "sunshine and lollipops" style comedy, and they instead got a wickedly dark, and deeply disturbing movie about loneliness and desperation for friendship.

I loved the porno password scene too George Smiley

It was great when Jim Carrey whispered in Matthew Broderick's ear "The password is..vagina."

And Matthew's character is like "What?! No! I can't say that in front of my mother!!"

And then his dad is like "She's a grown woman! She can handle it!"

 rofl

Watching a Freddy Mercury-looking Jim Carrey beat the crap out of Owen Wilson was worth the price of admission alone.

Dancing at the Blue Iguana (2000) - Starring Sheila Kelley and Charlotte Ayanna. Watchable film that focuses on the lives of several different ladies making their living at a strip club.

The Wonder of it All, and In the Shadow of the Moon:  a pair of Moon documentaries with interviews from the Apollo astronauts. I think I preferred the latter overall.  Buzz Aldrin came to the showing of Wonder at the Arclight in Hollywood, and there was an informal Q&A with him.

The Deer Hunter:  a shocking movie about russian roulette and Vietnam with Robert de Niro and Christopher Walken.  I dont think I've gotten over it yet...

Nathalie... (2003) - Enjoyable French film starring Fanny Ardant and Emmanuelle B?art. It's about a wife who is suspicious of her husband being unfaithful. Shires a prostitute to seduce him and report back to her about the relationship in very intimate details.

Sweeny Todd - Pretty good story with really bad singing.

I just can't decide if I want to see this or not. I loathe musicals, but this doesn't seem like your average musical. It's supposed to be very dark and gory. Kind of sounds more like a horror movie with singing than some broadway musical shit. Johnny Depp is my favorite actor, too . . . I'm just worried I'm going to rent this and end up hating it.

Percentage wise, just how much of this movie actually consists of singing?

I haven't actually watched this yet myself but a movie considered a musical is generally all singing, I would think.

Come now D the singing was flat and uninspired.  They should've dubbed the singing, It would've made the movie that much better.
