I watched Gigli last night. I'd never seen it before. I was kind of hesitate to watch it, because of all the awful things I've heard about it. But it wasn't that terrible. I actually liked it. I think it was panned so harshly, because of the JLo and Affleck combo.

Isnt that enough of a reason?
I think Affleck is only watchable in movies where there is another established actor to work off of or when Kevin Smith directs him. If he is the only star in the movie its usually not very good. Just my opinion
And to stay on topic: I just watched the anniversary release of Raging Bull on DVD

i watched "Ray" and its an excellent movie
i never knew Ray Charles was a womanizing heroin addict though, that was trippy as fuck
the movie is very sad and depressing at times
i wont watch it more than once
but its a damn good movie and Jamie Foxx definitely earned that oscar!

Beetle Juice is great. Also notable for introducing another of Tim Burtons characters, Jack Skellington (Look at his hat when Beetle Juice comes thru the table near the end of the film.
Burton has two more, hopefully, big hits coming up with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Corpse Bride (The trailer for this one looks great.

watched "The Ring 2"
it was ok, lost the novelty of the first one, so some of the stuff wasnt as scary, pretty decent story, it tried to shed some light onto why samara was evil.
id watch it once, like i said, it was ok, not great not horrible.

Little Man Tate
It was directed by Jodie Foster, and she's in the movie too. It's about the trials and tribulations of a boy genius chess player. I thought it was pretty good.

The Ring Too-very disappointing. The fact that the film abandoned the videotape premise in favor of a very tiresome possession angle was a huge mistake. This film was derivative of many, far superiour films from Videodrome, The Omen, to Nightmare on Elm Street Part (Take your pick). * 1/2 out of ****
Troy-unmitigated disaster. Having grown up a huge fan of Homer's Illiad, I was desperate to see Hollywood tackle the most epic story ever imagined. The Gods were abandoned, Paris was emasculated then brought back as hero, Agamemnon was unscrupulously evil and one dimensional, and Helen's love was as manufactured as the most barren of Hollywood's increasing tired Sandra Bullock vehicles. I truly hated this picture for the butchering of what was an immortal piece of literature * out of ****
Hide and Seek- De Niro must owe someone a gambling debt. Utterly gratuitous. * 1/2 out of ****
Cursed-Base refuge. One of the worst werewolf films ever. * out of ****
Constantine-This film literally made no sense; there was some blather about the spear that supposedly slew Christ but it didn't really matter. Three quarters of the way through this film, the direction of the story still had yet to be revealed. Deserving of a rewrite followed by a colonic. Nix it. * 1/2 out of ****
Finding Neverland- The third best film of the year. If Million Dollar Baby didn't have the euthanasia angle to legitimize itself, this would have made a harder play for Best Picture. **** out of ****
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind-Perfect in every way. Finally a relationship portrayed on film that is more reflective of human life. **** out of ****
Shaun of the Dead-This film took me by surprised. Too bad James Gunn couldn't write a zombie flick like this. At least 20 times more effective than the hackish Dawn of the Dead remake. *** 1/2 out of **** Proof that the best zombie films come out of the UK. Danny Boyle be warned.
Open Water-The template for all low budget shockers. When a movie can portray death in the barest, basest, most bestial manner befitting, you know the filmmakers have done it right. *** out of ****
