Well I was thinking axl has gotten all this crap about no album coming out , and no work being done and such all that stuff. I really hated the '02 band , i found it down right sick. 06' line up is pretty good , thal while wierd has the right attitude and is such a kind person.  But I mean SOMETHING has had to be getting done , something very good , important , or sale worthy because the label has kept them right? I mean if the label found GNR to be up to nothing then they would've been dropped , but they see something in them correct? That just kind of re newed my faith of CD being pretty freakin awsome.

The only change from 02 to 06 was Buckethead leaving and Ron joining. So its Buckethead you didn't like?

The band's chemistry is a lot better! Axl doesn't look like a rapper anymore, and more new songs are being played.

It may be that the label think its great, or more likely they think it'll sell.

Mandy: I'll stand corrected on the chemistry and more new songs(although I dont think thats what he meant) but does Axls' clothes really decide how much people enjoy a show? I accept that people didnt like it but if a football jersey ruined the experience for someone, they have bigger issues to deal with peace

Nah, it doesn't decide how much people enjoy a show, but it was just too weird seeing Axl like that. Like I've said many times, now they look like a proper rock n' roll band. I'm sorry, but it looked like a freak circus back then.

it's pathetic.... with the only difference bucket/bumble... it's an image thing.  fink doesnt look goth and looks like more of a hippie now.  Bumblefoot looks like an old 80's rocker so that "improves" the band even if bucket is one of the best guitarists alive and axl lost the jerseys making him look less new school.  i love the 02 band.  i love the o6 band.... but i miss bucket.

I remember a lot of people in this board giving the band hell because of their image in 02, if that was the hard core fans can you imagine the rest of the public, the music industry is now more than ever more about image than music. To please a larger public the way they present themselves is very important, they look more to what the general R&R public would expect, and yes a lot of people would look at BH and just see a fric and not a great guitarist, as they did with Fink.
As far as i'm concerned they could rap themselves in toillet paper...wait i would actually like that a lot...but theres a big diference in the energy and mostly the confidence each individual shows on stage this time. i've only saw bootlegs of 02 but even thouse compared to the ones of this tour it seams like a whole new band.

Well I was looking for a more elaborate answer from the original post but since you took up the cause....

All those reasons could be made as areflection of Buckethead leaving, or a change in how they dress, mainly Robin and Axl. Granted the guys are playing more of their own material now, but on most nights recently they have only been playing 2 extra new songs that werent played in '02. So what is it that makes the '06 line-up better than '02?

If there's something to hate about the 2002 band that is Axl's voice for sure.

The majority of songs are better now in '06.  LALD "'02 style" is still my favorite LALD.

Yes, the look of the band is much cooler now...but the vocals are just so much freaking "better."  (as an aside, if you can't see Axl is hungrier now than in '02, check your vision.)  Really good bands have an aura, this '06 GNR has exactly that.  While '02 was a talented freak show, the '06 version is a talented rock band.   peace

No, there's no way the label would drop GNR.  You don't pour 11 million dollars into an album and drop the band.

If I was a betting man, I'd bet alot on this theory Grin

As for the band, v2006 looks and sounds more like a rock act. v2002 looked like a circus freak show with a cheap imitation of Axl singing
