Haha izzy it really cracks me up to see how you've totally changed your opinion? hihi

Never let anyone say i'm not open minded Cheesy I can admit when i'm wrong

To be fair i was cautious (as opposed to hostile) towards Casino Royale - i've seen a fair few poor Bond films (Diamonds are forever anyone?)

This really blew my socks off - okay the final third loses steam - but for 2/3rds of this film i was grinning like a kid, i just couldn't believe it was as good as it was and kept expecting them to do something to ruin it (maybe a musical number?)

I want Bond 22!!!!

I'm off to see Casino Royale again tommorow and then on Tuesday - damnit i want the dvd

Yep, I absolutely loved it.  Craig is a million times better than Brosnan and the story is really strong.  It's just a fucking great, exciting, stylish, funny, entertaining film.  Top class! ok

Overal response has been almost universally positive

People do love to complain about Bond films - most of the time unjustly, strange how Brosnan is now maligned when a few films back he was getting the priase Craig is now

Personally i think the series is stronger for its many different Bond actors - each one has been able to add something new, and its amazing how simply changing the actor can have so much effect

I've liked all the Bond actors - i dont have a problem with Lazenby, just the godawful film he was in, it wasnt his fault its so dull

I think that I'm the only person in the world that likes the theme. I heard that it was Chris Cornell and I was made up, but then everybody said it was rubbish so I never downloaded it. The first time I heard it was during the title sequence on Thursday, and I thought that it was great! 'Pop rock,' so what!, psh. It did what it was supposed to as a Bond theme, and I heard it again in town today and still thought that it was great!

As for the film... Well. Honestly, my hands were sweating during the first chase scene. Absolutely amazing! Daniel Craig IS Bond now, as far as I'm concerned.

Shaken or stirred, "does it look like I give a damn,"

and,

"the valet ticket as well."

Brilliant!

Saw it yesterday and I really liked it. While Craig will never be as good as you know who, he did a fine job. More of a meat n' potatos bond, very gritty and with an edge.

Ive never been a huge Bond fan, but I was  blown away by how good this movie is.  Craig was perfect.  This was the best movie Ive seen in a long time.

I saw it yesterday and I just love it. Craig is great in the role. Less seduction, more 'with an edge' character.

And some of the lines are just fucking great.

Special mention to the opening sequence in B&W, and the one just after, on the construction site. That chase is mind blowing, the way they filmed it and the stunts.

Great job !

Great Bond movie probably my second favourite after the "Golden Eye". What I didn't get was why M had to mention that she misses cold war? When this is supposed to be first mission for 007?

Are you kidding me? If that's the issue that you have, then the Cold War should be the least of your problems!,

seeing as they refer to 9/11 by name! Or did you miss that bit about the airline shares?

I dunno the cold war line kinda sticked out, I mean it didn't had any other purpose than to inform us that the cold war is over.
The airline bit was after the cold war bit so it didn't felt wrong anymore. But that's all irrelevant anyway cos all of the high tech stuff they used throughout the movie.  Bond movies are all kinda "loose sequels" anyway so no worries.

It's inconsistent enough that Judy Dench was in it at all, but I guess they wanted another "star" in the film.  Why does everyone think she's a good actress??  She's standard at best and seriously typecast. Tongue

even though this movie is Bonds first adventure, it still takes place in current times.? It has to work that way, otherwise either all Bond movies would take place in the 60s, or Bond would be 70 years old. The Bond movies dont follow a specific timeline continuity.

Just seen it today, probably the best Bond films there is, simple as that, Goldeneye is the only other competitor imo. The action is great the lines classic Bond and Daniel Craig nails the role. I know it's against the law to say this but I think if his other films are this good he will be the best Bond ever, show me a Connery performance better than Craigs in this film. The script is brilliant, the dialogue between Bond and Vesper is just terrific, there's awesome on-screen chemistry between those two, and man is she hot? drool

Agreed it loses steam in the final third, after the torture scene it goes slightly flat but does go into the aspects of the Bond character that explain why he is the way he is. This is supposedly the first of two parts is that right? The next film is going to be a directly linked sequal to this film? I can't wait, roll on 08.

9/10 for this film no doubt, a really great movie? ok

Does it actually explain anything though?

I adored the film - but Bond was pretty much the same character at the end as he was at the start, the events of the film dont really seem to have altered him much - and that was one area i was hoping would be developed

But only a minor point, top class film

Well I think it was just to try to explain why he treats women the way he does in later films, because he fell for Vesper and she betrayed him, so he decided to close himself to women from then on. Although your right when he was with the terrorists wife at that beach club he treated her just like any woman in any other Bond film and they made a point of saying he had his 'armour' on with Vesper a couple of times too. He was pretty much the Bond we all know at the beginning and at the end he just was a bit softer in the middle. Either way though like you said it doesn't take away from the film. I'm thinking of seeing it again at the weekend  yes
