Guns N' Roses Impact in your country - HELP!
«
on:
June 17, 2006, 06:40:32 PM »
Hello,
I have to write a paper and I'm using Guns N' Roses as my subject. The question that I'm going to ask will help me with my research, but will also be cool for others to see your answers (This is why I put it in this section).
This question is:
In what way has Guns N' Roses had an impact in your country (Positive and or Negative) i.e. Change of music direction, Money for the venues, Protests, were they banned and why etc. . . .
It can be the old or new band, 1986 - 2006. It's not a political thing, but if they have made a political impact please share.
Please start your answer with the country you live in. I am more interested in countries outside of the US, but welcome the comments as it will be interesting to read them.
I hope this is ok Jarmo!
Thank you in advance for your answers

Tough question but one you can argue well.
Basically took RnR to an even more badass level. Parents shocked, generation gap widened etc.
Slash and Duff's swearing at that televised award show led to the popular use of slightly delayed broadcasting.

This isn't true - the incident occured on the American Music Awards.
The
American Music Awards
haven't aired live each year since the incident, it didn't affect any other programming.

Ok after my little bitch session about a month ago about how the mods are coming down way to hard on people, I've got to comment here, because I've read it quite a few times...the "please don't remove this" "sorry if it's been posted" "hope this is acceptable" "Hope this topic is good enough" etc etc...
People post something, then have to grovel not to have it removed --- "hope this is ok jarmo"
I know it's his board, but man, wtf? I don't think Castro gets bowed to in the same way.

And this has exactly what to do with this topic? If you want to bitch, do it in the appropriate section, that is the Administrative one.

Well, the guy above is not exactly talking about GN'R, is he?
We don't care whether people give a shit or not. That section has its own purpose and if people refuse to use it appropriately, their posts are going to be deleted and that's all there is to it.
Now, on topic please.....

I'm Rafael Tavares and I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I can't talk to each brazilian gunner here, but I can truly say that Guns N' Roses is the band that everyone listen when he/she is just getting started on the "international heavy stuff", if it's not Guns N' Roses is Iron Maiden. Untill now Sweet Child O' Mine, November Rain and other songs plays very often on radio, like if it's been released just a while ago. People love and hate them here, I know people that had been beated on the street just because was wearing a GN'R t-shirt, but I also know people who had very well treatments in some places just because is a Guns N' Roses fan.
I can't tell if they changed music direction here in the 90's because I was too little at the time, but I know from videos that I saw, and conversations I had with people who actually lived that moment, that they became huge here at early 90's, and untill now you can see people with only 12 years old rocking by the sound of songs that only the die-hard fans knows like Locomotive and Don't Damn me, which is great because you can see that people doesn't listen to just the hits.
Sorry if it isn't what you were looking for, I can't remember a lot of details right now, I'm a little ill today...

Rafael, I was about to post pretty much the same thing. I was going to say that in Brazil there's no middle term, you hate them or you love them, and GNR is very popular. I remember when I was living there, every day I argued with my friend because she hated GNR.

Just to clarify - I did not ask Jarmo if it was ok to post this in this section out of fear. I asked him to make sure that it was the right section and also to be respectful as this is his web site.

Hi, I am from Montreal and I have to say that Guns n roses made history here with the riot that happened in 92. I was only 12 and I didn't go to the show but a lot of people did and got really angry at the band. Guns n roses was escorted out of the city and banned and even though it has been a long time now, people are still talking about it and I would be very surprised if they are ever allow them back into the city. Especially if the band is keeping with this reputation of showing up late to shows. But I have to say that there is quite a bit of fans like me that unfortunately will have to travel to go see guns n roses play. The classic rock radio station are playing them a lot and I think everybody agrees that they are rock legends. I personnaly think that back in 92 Axl didn't care much about anything and this kind of thing happened in a couple of cities, I don't think it was personnal to Montreal and it didn't change anything for me, it is part of what Guns n roses is all about.
